I just bought the Swedish movie ร ke och hans vรคrld from Amazon about a month ago and I couldn't resist drawing the adorableness of little (teacup for all those that have seen True Blood
) Alex. A quick drawing done in charcoal, conte crayon and white pastel on Strathmore gray scale paper. This is a fairly new medium for me since I do most of my portraits in graphite. I've only done a few figure sketches in charcoal before.

You did a wonderful job using charcoal. This is a very well done drawing. The dark shadows under his eyes makes him look like he's ill, if that was your intent you did that very well. That you can shade his skin that well with crayon and charcoal is a testament to your ability. You are very talented, and I like this deviation very much.

He did have dark circles under his eyes as a child, and in the movie he was indeed ill. There were two boys in the film and the other was the lead character, I remember reading somewhere that originally they wanted Alex for the lead role but it went to the other boy because he looked like he was in better health.
