Description Another one from the layout. Those engineering works on the Western line at Truro seem to be going on a long time.Β Once again 'The Cornishman' is diverted over the Southern line and is seen approaching Truro (South Western) behind a Penzance 'Grange'. Driver Penriddick has 'popped' the whistle to let Mrs Penriddick in Railway Terrace know that he is back and to get the pasties in the oven. Fireman Bolitho has tidied up his fire ready for the Penzance crew to take over.

In the background, an 'N' Class Mogul shunts the carriage sidings but the encroaching diesels have arrived. Victoria Sidings Signal Box (left) controls access to the Motive Power Depot and Locomotive Works, and also the carriage sidings.

The Penzance portion of 'The Cornishman', seen here, is composed of maroon-liveried Centenary stock with a Mark One Restaurant Car as by this date the famous 'Chocolate andΒ Cream' sets had been largely done away with. Normally the restaurant cars would come off at Plymouth but we spoil our passengers on this railway.

Very nice scenery!

And the loco weathering looks ace too, just subtle enough to look realistic, yet still express-like.

No problem!

Just noticed the shunter's truck, too. Were they ever used outside the GW region? I think the Southern might have gotten some after nationalizion.

Yes the Southern did have a number but on other regions I think the shunters tended to ride on the engine steps (a dangerous practice).Β These shunters' trucks were also known as 'chariots' or shunters' runners.
