Description 1st set of Pose Reference of the Year! WOOP WOOP! You will recognize these poses from the open model sketches I posted in December. And because these were based on a model, you can see that the weight differs a bit from my typical poses. I like the idea of having different weights for these.

Great job, love the collections and concepts. Might I suggest poses of people sitting down, inspired by patrons of a diner or a cafe having a meal or cup of coffee? I'd be over the moon to see that

How do you use Pose references?

CourtneysConcepts In reply to awesomethegreatfox [2017-07-09 05:28:05 +0000 UTC]

Hello,
So I'm not exactly sure what your asking in particular so I'm going to cover my bases. (PUN XD)

Anyway, You can look at the bases and draw based off them. Basically using this as a model, and trying to draw you character in the same proportion/position. This is the best way in my opinion because it helps artist to grow more, because you really have to focus on your own skills. Although bases are often not used in this way.

You can also draw over them. By clicking on the link in my description, it will bring you to the post with downloadable content. There are 4 files. A jpg (as seen above for reference) a jpg with a white background (so you can print it out, or use it as a multiply layer and draw over/beneath it. A PNG file with only line art (so you can print, or easily use it in computer applications) and a photoshop file. Click the file(s) you would like to use and download. Once you've downloaded it you can do two things.
1.) print it out and draw overtop of it. If you have a lightbox, or a tracing box, you can draw overtop of it without my lines getting in your way.
2.) put it in the computer application of your choice (gimp, photoshop, etc.). You want to use the layers option for this method, so you can draw on it as much as you want without altering the original line art. That way if you want to change something, the line art is still there and nothing has been lost. If you have more questions on how layers work I can explain more thoughorly. with this method you also can be as limited to the base as you want or you can expand on it, by adding clothing, props, or whatever!

But whenever using a reference/resource, mine or anyone else you should always credit that source. If you don't it is considered plagiarism, which is illegal. The easiest way to do this is to include a link to where you got the reference, or in my case, a link to my page.

I hope I answered your question, but if i didn't, or need any more help, feel free to message me again.
Thank you

Thank you,if I decide on submitting a pose references that I use,I would have to credit the user of it,right?

CourtneysConcepts In reply to awesomethegreatfox [2017-07-10 04:22:10 +0000 UTC]

No Problem.
Okay so if you referenced someone else work/art to create something, then you have to credit the original source/artist.
So if you created a base from a pose reference (photograph or otherwise) you would still need to reference the person/source of the pose reference you used.

The only time you do not credit someone is if you didn't use anything to help you make it. Drawing out of your head, or drawing something directly in front of you that isn't art sculptures or photographs.

So Yes.

No Problem. It makes me really happy to hear that my studies can be useful to others.
I understand completely what you mean. For the longest time I actually wouldn't draw humans because lack of reference. So after I had the opportunity to start drawing in open model sessions, an entire new area of art opened up for me. I just hope that I can help others expand their horizons as well.

Holy shit balls dude. I can't believe i had to read that with my own eyes. Just. Is everything that comes out of your mouth pretentious bullshit or is this just a special occasion?

You are aware that these are bases right? They're not meant to be stunning works of art. Also the colours aren't important here, they're only there to make it easier to see the bases. The perspectives are actually very well done as well.

Also, honey, if you really graduated from 'one of the top Fine Art schools in all of Dallas, Texas', might I suggest re-applying again? And really? In all of Dallas, Texas? I doubt your school was even in the top 100 of Fine Art schools of America.

And in all honesty, I don't think you of all people should offer themselves up as a 'mentor'. You are in no way possible a 'big league artist'.

P.S. Having actually looked at your deviantart, I am hoping to all things holy that you are one of those 'satire' accounts because in all honesty sweetpea, my sister draws better than you and she's 9.

It's not a problem. I really dislike those people who do that sort of thing where they're clearly not needed or wanted. I did actually ask one of my more, ah, worldly friends about that comment and they believe that they're a troll account. Which if that's true, is really really sad of that person. To put energy and time into making an account just to be hateful and troll-ish just 'for the lolz', it's such a waste.
