Story by 6H0UL
An international trip to Australia wasn’t a particularly nerve-wracking endeavor for either of the two young women, at least- it didn’t outwardly seem that way in Addison’s case. While this was the first time both girls had shown out of the country, Agila’s biggest worry was the spiders. Her worst nightmare was a creepy crawly making itself known in a boot, or under a saddle pad. Whilst Addie had been staying at Redbud Road to gain a different perspective on her jumping abilities, Agila, the one who had suggested the barn she rode at, had decided that it would be fun to participate in the show as well. It started as merely a little joke to do the race, but it was a suggestion that soon became more and more appealing to both of them.
Soon enough, with a little bit of planning- and extra preparation on Addison’s part, the two found themselves preparing to (figuratively) kick their horses into gear and try their hand at the Surf & Turf challenge. Although Addie certainly had the guts to ride someone else’s horse, let alone one that was part Obertaurer for this race, she was far from stupid. Addison had definitely seen for herself that Aphrodite was a very sweet and affectionate horse, yet even still, she dawned a body protector; just in case the nature of the young mare’s breed overrides her kind temperament. Neither of the pair of riders had much time to worry though, because as soon they heard the sound of the buzzer, they were off.
Moon was a little faster than Aphrodite, but the two steeds didn’t have too far a gap in their abilities; this was certainly helpful. New and exotic birds, at least ones that were new to the American women, fluttered by as they were startled by the galloping horses. Addie didn’t have much time to gawk, though, as only a handful of seconds into the dash... Aphrodite began to protest. Tossing her head was one thing, but after a couple of mere seconds passed, she threw what was, at least in the mare’s mind, a buck.
Addison was in luck, though. She was quite experienced as a rider, and certainly was able to sit the little crow hop; even still considering the speed they were going. All it took was a plea for Aphrodite to quit, and a gentle half-halt, before the young horse was back on track. The soft sound of her owner’s protest from her behavior was what truly brought Aph back to focus, though. It wasn’t too much longer, especially with Agila’s horse now behaving appropriately before the pair reached the top. Only time would truly tell how they would place, but each rider hoped for the best. Both horses got considerable pats and praise from Addison and Agila. Agila was especially proud of her horse for being so tolerant, considering her breed.
