I posted a poll on my profile about your thoughts on trying some adopt projects. This is an example of what that would look like. I'd upload the image on the left: 256 x 256, with a watermark, as a preview of the character. If anyone adopts the character, they receive the upscaled full image, 2048 x 2048, and optionally an alternate or NSFW version of the character.
