I want to keep this next character's devious side pretty much undetectable (from looking at the piece at least), but there will be other devious characters later on. If you look more closely, you might see that hidden cunning streak in the piece

I think cunning can be represented as a variety of colors, and can be chosen based on the character’s motivation as well. Ex. If they use their wit to amass wealth or influence, green, gold, or purple could be fitting

Neon green is a very bold color; and you are right, a jewel like that would really stand out
That said, white and blue are associated with innocence, these colors would fit a character who’s secretly deceptive really well
