For OC-training Task #8: Anger. I'm slowly working my way to more polished comic pages and backgrounds xD.

Character Notes:

Gyoku Kurosawa (玉黒澤, "jade black marsh") is a high-ranking prince from the Kurosawa Royal Family. Upon joining Kurosawa, he was promoted directly to the rank of Imperial Prince - a once-in-a-lifetime feat that earned him widespread renown within Process. Despite his great fame and influence, he retains an aura of mystery - no one knows his real name, origins, or how his Instance works.

In combat, Gyoku uses his Instance in a deceptive and judicious manner, preventing allies and enemies alike from fathoming the extent of his powers. He utilizes a combination of swordsmanship, cunning, and brute force.

Hua Shijian (花時間, "spending time") is an executive member of Thread, and a powerful Instance user who can manipulate time. Compared to his charming and easygoing partner, Rafael, Shijian is very serious and reticent. He has declined multiple offers to join the Kurosawa Royal Family.

Setting Notes:

Identifiers (or ids) are typically granted to Instance users who reach Rank A9 or higher. However, it is possible to acquire one through achieving an extraordinary level of influence. Most Imperial Princes and Princesses have ids.

Many choose to have references to royalty and/or divinity in their ids. However, after Gyoku chose to be called Jade Scorpion, animal- and material-themed names started gaining popularity.

The naming rules used to be fairly lax, with users having the freedom to choose misleading and even comical names. However, after a certain engineer abused the naming system, stricter rules were enforced.

Relationship Notes:

Makoto/Xinyi and Gyoku, also known as the Jade Scorpion of Semaphore, share a mutual dislike towards each other.

An enigmatic prince whose origins and real name are unknown, Gyoku has been a person of interest to Makoto ever since the latter joined the Kurosawa Royal Family. That the infamous Shijian seems to have ties to both Thread and Semaphore only adds to the suspicion that Gyoku is much more influential - and sinister - than he lets on.

Gyoku, on the other hand, suspects that Makoto is up to no good. As the leader of Semaphore, which oversees Process's finances, Gyoku has dealt with all kinds of criminals - financial or otherwise. He has heard every excuse in the realms and knows a liar when he sees one. If it turns out that Makoto is linked to that person...well, one doesn't earn a name like Jade Scorpion for being nice.

Author's Notes:

Makoto rarely reciprocates in his relationships and will try to achieve his goals while revealing as little about himself as possible. While he will use personas in order to obtain information, there are lines that he won't cross. Ironically, he dislikes people who favor cunning and underhanded methods.

Like Makoto, Gyoku has a lot of secrets. While he is more authentic than Makoto and is less isolated from others as a result, he is also harsher and more ruthless. His reasons for hiding his identity and joining the Kurosawa Family are very different from Xinyi's - though it's safe to say that neither of them are there for the fame, prestige, or money.
