Description This was fun to come up with, but I think my initial idea is better than the execution. But had to get it done for this weeks sketchblog: [link]

I think I might put some copic tones over the original black and white art, that way the original feels more complete and I can sell it off (hopefully).

As for Bane, while I don't hate him, I'm not too into his character, though I enjoyed the Knightfall storyline. I just don't think he holds up in comparison to all the other Bat-Villains.

Awesome piece. I thought Gail Simone did a good job with him in her Secret Six series. He had a pretty interesting character arc throughout the book. And yeah he doesn't really compare to the classic villians like Joker and Two Face. But compared to someone like Doomsday, who was ostensibly created for the exact same purpose in the same time period(to take out an iconic superhero)? He's pretty good.

Even before Gail Simone got ahold of him, Bane had a few really interesting stories over the years, especially when he met Ra's Al Ghul in the excellent "Bane of the Demon" miniseries, and the shenanigans that followed between the two guys. The problem was that so few folks actually read those stories, so for a lot of people Bane was still the same one-note steroid-abusing character that he was back in the days of Knightfall, lacking any of the character depth that he developed in other stories between that time and Secret Six (like Vengeance of Bane II, Bane of the Demon, and Veritas Liberat (which was a bit controversial, but was added a lot of depth to him).

Of course, Bane's public image isn't helped by the fact that a lot of DC's writers apparently haven't read those stories either, so they'll occasionally have him appear in something like Infinite Crisis or Salvation Run, and do something completely against his character development. There's also his appearances in Arkham Asylum/City that influence how people see him. Sure, the games are great, but Bane is absolutely NOTHING like his comic counterpart (the most obvious difference being that Bane in the comics kicked his addiction to venom waaay back in 1995, and he wants the drug wiped off the face of the earth).
