2021 Revisit:Back when this was made, you had to set the drawn frames to appear correctly on a crt... and I didn't have a clue what I was doing at all.

Aaaaack I looove this! I love her clenched fist, the hair, her expression, well if I kept naming all the parts I loved, I'd finally add up to the WHOLE, which I LOVE!
Great work.

there won't be any of the actual fight, mainly because it would spoil too much. the manga will cover the fight first.

she's probably one of the most popular in the series of characters so far. i think the scythe is the reason, along with her hair

Doing the shading in that style looks like its going to be a female dog to animate.

You'd think that, but it's actually easier than my first animation, and only a little harder than my second which used a colourless version of the current style. and my experience is very vast, so you'd be suprised at just how much can be done by just one guy.

This looks pretty good, I like how you used basic lines for where there's meant to be shade, it's a good style to use, especially for animations.
The only things that seem a little off are mostly down to anatomy, now of course this is all based on whether you wanted a realistic style or a more cartoony style, but based on your anatomy studies, I'd say you wanted a bit more of a realistic style? Such as the legs seem longer than they should, I know there are girls with long legs out there, but they are proportional, where as these don't seem to be. I think it's the shins that are too long. This goes for her torso as well.
The arm holding the scythe seems a little lower than it should do, it makes the part between the shoulder and the elbow seem awkward and uncomfortable, the muscle in that arm seems a little off too. Lastly her face seems a little flat, but overall it looks alright.
Of course this could all be down to your style.

this image is a little off for another reason too, photoshop when calibrating a video image, changes the scaling on an image so it looks right in a video editing program, but results in the ratios becoming squeezed in a normal image. it's called pixel to non-square pixel compression.
i realise there are improvements to be made despite this though. even with the style, it has a way to go like all art forms in life.

LookitDom In reply to CraigJonathonHill [2009-06-06 18:52:14 +0000 UTC]
That's fair enough, I'd recommend doing some more anatomy studies to improve when drawing people.

if whatever youv done has honestly changed your images then your doing something wrong and even then it should not change the image so dramatically, what ever animation program your using must be the worst ever. having made a simple animation before i know that software doesn't necessarily change the image and yes i did do it through photoshop and all that.

btw, people have read this comment and have noted me that i should class it as a flame. i'd advise you learn a little about video editing programs and scaling in photoshop at 1.422 before you start getting a little snobby about things. and especially if your just some sixth former, because your not talking to someone at the same level, your talking to someone who's in university

oh and i've animated twice before and have won awards at events such as popcorn 2008 for best animation. so not only do i actually know what i'm talking about, but i have the awards to show it.

CraigJonathonHill In reply to darkph3onix [2009-06-06 16:01:33 +0000 UTC]
your a little backwards aren't you. it's being edited to a video programme, not an animation program. i can even print screen the scaling difference. and the actual section in adobes manual that points out what i've just told you. honestly, i'm not making excuses LOL
π: 0 β©: 1
darkph3onix In reply to CraigJonathonHill [2009-06-06 16:18:02 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure whether or not to take offense to what you just called me? The person who was criticizing your work was talking about anatomy, so now tell me that this editing whatever your doing changes the anatomy of it? Even if it was a video editing program, surely it shouldn't distort some of the anatomy, such as the shoulder connecting to the arm looking uncomfortable like the above said?
Now im not having a go im just trying to point out what the other person was saying.

it's weird how it's distorted on here though, i would have thought the way it looked in FCP would be the way it would look as a jpeg.

well you've put it on the internet. Things alway move from ebing whatever dip to only 72 dip, reason I have like all my orginal work saved on my laptop for prining off and stuff.

CraigJonathonHill In reply to BEW-face [2009-06-03 13:48:47 +0000 UTC]
it snagged due to compression before it was uploaded, do you actually know about pixel to non-square pixel scaling... you know the thing you told me you knew about yesterday? I'm only saying it's weird because i wish computer monitors used the same scaling as HDTV screens since there both equal in quality. 72dpi has nothing to do with it.

CraigJonathonHill In reply to bdwfh [2009-06-02 10:11:03 +0000 UTC]
cheers this isn't the way it looks on screen though, a funny fact for you, video images have a different pixel aspect ratio, so when i submit it on here it squeezes it a little. so she's not as annorexic LOL

lolz, AWESOME! XD
i think it looks gd. would say some things look SLIGHTLY disproportional to me but idk if that's actually what u wanted/is the style. lolz, i compare too much with me irl .lolz. bad thing to do. *tuts*
omg, looks soo gd. a LOT of improvement from the previous animation. =]
way to go, onii-san!!!!!!!! ^_^

CraigJonathonHill In reply to Irish-Dark-Faerie [2009-06-02 10:20:19 +0000 UTC]
it's only slightly disproportional because video images become distorted on a computer, it doesn't look quite like this on the screen. it's a long story as to why it happens but basically a computer uses square pixes where as a HDTV output uses something a little different, so when i output as an image it loses it's scale.

it's a shame that video ratio output gets distorted on a computer, this is actually a HDTV image but due to a certain technique known as video scaling everything gets a little thrown.

So even though you've requested critique, I'm not allowed to make any suggestions critique wise because I can't animate a 3 second avatar.
Hmmm. Don't know what I think of that. Considering I've got a coulpe years of making stop motion animation with my brother....
