(tentative until I take a second look when I havent been staring at it for 7 hours today lolz- I'll update with the lore then.)This is the companion to the other deviantation, Shining Moon . (The names, if you live under a rock, were what people thought the GS remakes were gunna be named before they came out with Heart Gold and Soul Silver. I personally like the sound for the titles better.
)Another con piece. I really hope the matching piece won't take as long, because hot DAMN this was a big pain in the ass. Seriously. Took WAY longer than expected. ;;
I played around with the concept from some flavor text off the Pokemon games. Because, you know, Ho-oh supposedly has wings that shine in the SIX (HA!) colors of the rainbow. Surprisingly, I have yet to see another rainbow Ho-Oh out there. :/ Hmm.
...I generally had to fart around with the lineart for this one. There were a lot of weird lookin' things with the head and I couldn't quite get that exact look for it. And then, um, I abused dodge on the feathers. I normally stay away from dodge and burn nowadays, but given the fact that the wings blend together a lot, it's...yeah. So, uh, ABUSE!
If there's anything one wants to know about me, it's that I try really really hard to avoid using rainbows, pink, and making things really shiny. Why? Because it's like a fuckin' potato chip to me! I start with the intention of one little rainbow, and BAM! Next thing you know there's rainbows all over the place, I SPAM shiny things, and pink is totally unavoidable. As this proves.
I'm desat'ing this before I go to Staples, because I fear the colors are so bright it'll make people's eyes hurt.
Uh, I like to think this is a bit of a coloring improvement than the other one, though :3
Oh, and the Ho-Oh's name is Hisui.
Ho-Oh belongs to Nintendo, Gamefreak, yadda yadda...

The colors...they are great! Never before have I seen such a magnificent lugia. The rainbow wings look astounding, better than the white that Pokemon uses. Well, this gets a fav!

The only improvement (maybe) that i can think of is that (if you had had extra time), you could've put the tin or brass tower (whichever Ho-oh inhabits) in the background. Put Ho-oh in his environment like you did Lugia.

Actually, theoretically Ho-Oh is in its true environment. 'It is said to fly the world's skies on its seven-colored wings.' The only reason I had Lugia tied to the ocean is because it eternally rests there because its powers are too strong. It was part of the lore I had written for the piece but never posted up due to laaaaaziness. Thar be a reason Lugia's in watah!

I love colorful drawings, and that nice detail of rainbow wings it's fantastic. Maybe a darker background would fit better, but since it's a morning bird, it would be weird hehe

Fantastic, the background really supports the theme and color palette. Beautiful coloring, but really only one thing is out of shape in this picture. The rainbow that starts from Ho-Oh's tail, it doesn't fit at all. It should be part of the background but as it is now, it's disctracting me too much from the main thing in this drawing that is Ho-Oh in the middle. Maybe you should have done the Sun instead, you know, to beter correspond the title of this picture?

Actually, if we go by the flavor text straight from the games, I believe it says that Ho-Oh creates a rainbow from its tail as it flies. So the rainbow path behind it is where it actually flew from, and sort of a method (or attempt, either or) at typing Ho-Oh to the background more.
As for the sun, Ho-Oh is supposed to be the sun lol. (based on the circular form of the bird) The sun should be somewhere below it and I messed up on the coloring in that sense but it still looks pretty enough right and this is the longest sentence in all of history.

Putting all the things that somehow symbolize a certain character into one pic might not be the best of ideas- while it certainly is tempting but it easily makes the picture look too crowded, or as in this case, doesn't make it look very consistent. I can certainly see the round shape symbolizing the sun but then you could have done the light source coming from behind Ho-Oh in order to make it look more radiant and glittering like the sun itself. That's just a suggestion, because I really like the purple color on the background. But I'd rather have that rainbow taken off, it just doesn't fit, I'm afraid.
To save you from unnecessary frustration I'll tell you that I'm only trying to help you with my critique, and you'll take what I've said as you wish.

Well, the flavor text actually does say 'seven' colors of the rainbow. It's on my insistance that there are only 6 colors that I wrote that. Did you know that Da Vinci actually made up the blue-violet color known as indigo for the sheer sake of making it a holy number to match the seven days of the week? It's true, I swear it! As a fine artist appreciator, I reject indigo as a color of the rainbow. <3

Mmhmm, that's what I heard at any rate. And it is on the color wheel. It's just an intermediate color, named as blue-violet for all us artists.
