Description So i had an idea.
Trans doe Ronno.
And i wanna preface this by saying i am 100% open to criticism on this concept and my story behind it. I want to hear feedback from trans feminine people. As a cis person, my ability to tell this story is severely limited. So your advice is very welcome. And as usual, technical criticism from anyone is appreciated. I was going for a simple, Disney-esque style smooshed together with some realism. But i love the animation style and character design in Bambi and Bambi 2, so i didn't stray too far from that. She/her pronouns to refer to Ronno from here on out.

As a fawn (in Bambi 2) she was always making a big show of masculinity, imitating adult stags at every opportunity. She taunted Bambi for being girly, calling him "Princess" and saying things like, "Bambi? Isn't that a girl's name?" But maybe she felt a little bit of jealousy towards the other fawn, who was maturing more slowly. She was probably confused and a little angry when her antlers started growing in so early, so she overcompensated by showing them off, even going so far as to call them "the Boys". But using them just didn't come naturally to her. And her favorite time of year is in winter when her antlers shed, and she can walk without the weight on her head to remind her of how she looks to others.

Fast forward to adolescence/young adulthood. Her overcompensation has gone to the extreme. She's also troubled by the fact that she is both jealous of and attracted to Faline, who of course only has eyes for Bambi. So Ronno makes a big show of trying to claim Faline and fighting Bambi. But she's still not all that sure of her antlers, and despite being physically bigger and stronger, Ronno loses out to Bambi.

The loss is a turning point for Ronno. She realizes the life of a stag is not for her. She abandons the safety of the herd for a solitary life of personal freedom. It's dangerous, but she's still quite strong.

I still have ideas for this. Like maybe Ronno meets another antlered doe. Maybe they fall in love. Maybe they have different methods for coping with their different levels of dysphoria. Etc etc, idk. What do you think?

And i don't wanna hear anything about ~ruined childhood~ i am so not here for that.

well that was unexpected!
at first i'd say it was a bit farfetch to make such an history out of the bambi movies and from a character from ronno, but then i think:

1- there are much less popular fandoms i love to participate with, and this seems as fine and cool as any other can be. people have diferent tastes.
2- you worked quite great the story arround the character, taking it seriously and i really think this needs to be noticed and respected.
3- i like to consider myself openminded and suportive (as i said, i myself am part of quite farfetch fandoms)

so, congratulations for quite an interesting idea, beautifull quality and such courage, is not always easy to come out to the internet with soething like this!

This is COMPLETE bastardization. How can you make this when you've said yourself you're not a deer, even though you might have asked deer friends to tell you if you're misrepresenting deer? How dare you try to make a respectful, educated, non-humorous, non-fetishized depiction of a deer when you don't even know what it's like to be one?!

No but really, headcanon accepted. There really isn't enough transgender depiction in popular fiction, and especially not enough depiction of trans women and their issues/struggles without them becoming the butt of "eww, TRAP" jokes. Now if only popular media could get this through their heads and depict transgender identities without the jokes and xenophobia. (My best friend went through the overcompensation stage before her own acceptance of her identity, by the way.)

Also some people are ridiculous when it comes to the Other trying to respectfully create an educated depiction something they're not.

I think its nice you made this, its wonderful you used the Bambi movie to make this story of your own, i think that most trans women would relate to Faline, but as you have made Ronno trans, its good to because you can show the troubles in life she may go tro, there are no trans women characters, so i understand you have to make them, and put your own feelings into them so you have someone to relate to.Β  <3

It wasn't really for me to relate to, since i'm cis. But thanks for your nice comments.

this is ridiculous AND it's made by a cis person
go figure
don't turn dysphoria and trans issues into whatever this is for your own amusement when you don't know a single thing

It's less for my own amusement and more for representation. There is a sad lack of non-sexualized trans women represented in art. That's why i consulted with several dmab trans friends and acquaintances of mine to get their opinions on whether or not it would be a good idea for a cis artist to take this on. Above all they urged me to be open to the criticisms of trans women who see my art. And i welcome those criticisms. Are you a trans woman here to offer criticism? According to your da profile, you're male.

i'm a trans male, but that doesn't really change the fact that doing this whne you're cis isn't really okay

Cis people can't make trans characters?

From what i've learned, the experiences of trans men are vastly different from those of trans women. If a trans woman came to me here and said this representation was completely inappropriate, i'd remove it. Coming from a trans guy... i'm less inclined. That being said, what about it do you think is inappropriate? Do you think my representation was inaccurate? Or do you think that cis people should just never make stories about trans people? I would agree that trans people should be making these stories too. But should cis artists really only create cis characters? It's not like i was planning to use her in some kind of disrespectful way, like yiff porn or something. And given that the majority of trans female characters that exist are either punchlines in bad jokes, murder victims, or overly sexualized, i thought there was room for my little Ronno headcanon.

being a Β trans male is literally not at all different from being a trans woman in this situation, and i think /i/ would know more about that than you. i'm not telling you the experience you're giving ronno or whatever is incorrect, i'm telling you it's not okay for you, a cis person, to create a bastardization of the struggles trans people go through all the time

I think this is interesting, I really enjoyed both Bambi and Bambi 2 as well. I think Ronno's an interesting character and would be interested in seeing Bambi 2 again from this perspective hmmm

I like the colors you used with this too ~

Thank you.

I kinda feel like there needs to be a movie just about Ronno.
