This is my entry for color battle #2 orver at Battle Artistt. If you dont know about this group come check it out" weekly competitions in line art, color and tag team battles.As you can see this weeks theme was the Hulk Asunder ( I believe the line art is an actual printed cover) The judges got their hands full this week. The talent in this group is crazy good and nobody is pulling any punches.

Oh well ... it seems our voters are all suffering from battle fatigue, I'm afraid. We see a lot of versions of the battle peices, so it gets a bit repetitive trying to offer critique on them all. I promised you critique tho, so here goes.
I already touched on the darkness issue, so we'll take that as read. In this instance it looks like your shading is actually covering up quite a lot of your work - that's just mad! Why go to the bother of detailing stuff, then cover it over? I really like that you've gone for some sort of energy explosion rather than the more obvious firey one. It's a nice touch and you've done pretty well on translating that to the rest of the image. Watch out for any explicit effect detailing in the linework tho - you've kinda avoided dealing with the actual lines of the explosion, and a colourist should always try to *accentuate* the lines, not ignore them. Nice use of that image-overlay effect tho, and lovely work on the foreground mist.

You know I had the hardest time getting my pic to load. Every time I loaded it something was missing on the pic after the third forth time I let it be and when I checked it out it was a lot darker than the one I have saved in photoshop. Im with you I put a lot of work on that pic and the last thing I wanted to do was cover it up. Thanks for the critique and i need to get off here and finish my pic for our battle!

That's a pity. Drives me mad when stuff like that happens. If you don't already, try using 'save for web' to save out jpegs to submit. It's not much use for proper file handling, but for the sake of showing your work online it tends to give the best results.
