Description Here's a stamp I made to show my support of copyrights! ^_^
I'm really big on respecting copyrights - I don't take commissions of copyrighted characters, I don't sell fanart, and I don't buy fanart. It's illegal and I feel that it's wrong. So, if you want to show your respect of copyrighted materials, feel free to put this stamp wherever you want. ^_^ I can't put this stamp in my own journal, sadly (no sub T_T) but I would like to see if pop up in other places.

Template graciously supplied by They have tons of great photoshop rescources - Check 'em out!

I completely agree. If game developers/authors/etc. have the good graces to tolerate let a person fanart of their characters, people should not try to make a profit off of it.

I wanted to add this to my shoutboard but the border around it meant it didn't sit nicely with the rest.

But I do support copyrights - love this!

Thank you. ^_^
I used a template, so it's probably something to do with that.

Yours is more subtle, though.
They are both good stamps! Yours can go to the people with darker journals, and mine for the ones with a blue theme. ^_^ Gotta color co-ordinate, after all.

I know the laws are different in other nations, but since I live in the US I have to adhere to the laws we've got here... I also have a moral point to it, but they're personal beliefs and there's no arguing them.
On the other hand, I do appreciate fan art. ^_^ So many funny situations that we'd otherwise never see!

I see.
Well, the stamp its fine. I like the little (c) in the background, the only detail, is that they interfere with the legibility.

I think you have, which is always cool. ^_^ My major problem with copyrights, though, is when people make money off of fanart and things like that. Here in the US, at least, it's illegal and can get you sued.
Hell, one of my animation professors makes some of his money airbrushing portraits. He had a gallery show downtown a few years back featuring portraits he had made, including those of famous people that he made just to show off his skills at capturing a likeness - Those pictures weren't for sale because he knew that actors' likenesses are copyrighted. Somehow, an agent for some of the actors he painted found out and went ballistic, and tried to sue him! It took Mr. Allen months, but he managed, though receipts, bank records, photographic proof that the signage at the event clearly stated those pictures were simply a demonstration of talent and properly credited, etc etc... It took a long time, a lot of hassle, and a pile of legal fees, but he finally managed to prove that he was innocent of trying to sell "derivative works".
That, and after countless hours of copyright law classes (they make you take those in art school - blar) I'm too paraniod to even think about it! I've got tons of horror stories... *shudder*

Whoo! ^_^
I mean, I love fanart (~Hail-NekoYasha comes to mind) but it's just really annoying how people seem to think it's okay to make money off of other people's characters.

Uh...not to disagree or anything, but I'd like to point out that in Japan, doujins are perferctly legal. The easoning behind this - Doujins will increase interest, therefore increasing sales of the copyrighted product. Just thought you'd find that interesting. CLAMP, for example, started off with fancomics.

Oh, I know that - But I live in the US, and therefore I have to abide by US law. That, and I just think it's wrong to profit off of someone else's creation. If someone started selling fanart of my characters (which are all legally copyrighted through the US gov't) I would go after them. I know it sounds harsh, but it's not like I'm some company making millions - I would like the profits from my characters and story ideas. ^_^
Then again, to me, my characters are like family or good friends. Most of them have been a part of my work for ten years - Some of them even longer.

I see your point. I'm just saying that fancomics can actually help the big name animes. Personal stuff like you're work, that I agree with entirely.

They can, but if they're sold in the US, that doesn't stop it from being illegal. *shrug* I'm just worried that the visual art community will get all crazy over-scrutinized like the music industry is. That, and as a professional artist, I don't want to do anything even approaching illegal; that sort of thing can ruin my career, low on the ladder as I am right now.

I know, I'm just saying. lol, I can see that. You may be low on the ladder, but you're damn good, none the less ^_^
