Me.What more should I say about this... so it took me about four days. I didn't realize how weird it looks cropped like that until after it was finished, and I'm too lazy to fix it so you'll have to use your imagination.

This is a really great portait. The smile is very natural, and it's not overly manipulated to be "fake-pretty" Which can happen in some digital paintings and manipulations.
For critique, I would say you are correct, and it does seem like you're serenely smiling while sitting chest-deep in a pool of quicksand, but it's not extremely detracting from the picture. It's not even the first thing I noticed. I think if you ever decided to do a second portrait like this, you'd be able to get rid of that problem.
Overall, it's a very nice picture.

another sweet piece. Maybe just pop a couple of white highlights onto the eyes as that would help make them look wet and draw attention to them as the main focal area.
