I will wait for it too hit DVD.

Why cause I like Kaiju films, and I like Mecha. This appeals to both but does not give me a joy to go see them.

Though I do love this and the Manly Guys Doing Manly Things Comic on the subject

Fair enough.

I do want to point out that I liked the film, loved it even. I'm a fan of Kaiju flicks in general.

But as my comic picks fun at things in movies, I was looking for something that I thought was silly/funny about the movie. To me, this part stuck out. Of all the tropes, the whole "Disney Dad" thing (see the princess and the frog for an example) I thought was funny as I watched. I kept thinking, "Well you're not in the trailer much and you sure aren't a hot Asian pilot. Guess your time is nearly u... yup there it is." That's all I was commenting about with this. There were other parts that could have been used but I felt they were also done already (maybe) by others for the gag.

I'm actually getting kind of bored when people comment on this film and complain or at least point out that the Jaeger program is inefficient and the weapons system could be implemented better on conventional platforms. That's not the point of these films, it's to watch Giant Kaiju fight equally giant Robots! isn't it?

Also, we had a little bit of a character development for Yancy in the comic book Tales from Year Zero and the novelization.

Um, that's kinda the point of the film. It's not trying to be a high quality art film like Pan's Labyrinth, it's trying to pay homage to the over-the-top nature of classic kaiju films.
