---the story----

“Open your eyes my knight.”

the cool and calm voice called to him. He did as bid, but there was only darkness around him. He gasped and bubbles floated from his mouth. He was underwater? How? Had he fallen in?had his boat capsized?

“be calm cancer.” she spoke. He looked around how did he know the voice was a woman? He thrashed trying to get to the surface, but he only seemed to make more bubbles. The little spheres of air didn’t float far they seemed to sparkle like stars. The water seemed bluer than any he had ever been in, bluer, and deeper.

“look to me, my warrior cancer.” she said and he looked up gasping again. A woman of dark skin and hair in a starry night colored dress floated before him. She was easily 5 or so times his size but so beautiful. Her serene smile calmed him a little and she gestured to him.

“accept this mark my warrior and find your power, join the other constellations help the worlds, answer your true calling. Become the warrior of the constellation cancer, the dark water sign.” she said and she held out a cluster of stars he knew this cluster it was the constellation cancer. His stars. He reached forward the the sparkling white lights and touched them. Warmth and power floated into him. He jerked awake as the glow brightened and a loud clap of thunder made his ears ring.

He stared at the sticky glow in the dark stars on his ceiling, of his house boat. One constellation up there glowing faintly stood out more than the others. “cancer, warrior of the dark water” he said out loud. He moved his hand to rub his face and dropped something cold and metallic onto his chest he looked down and blinked.

“the hell?” he picked it up and flipped the smooth disk over. The constellation cancer sat in silver points on an onyx background. He placed it on his bedside table and rolled over. Too overwhelmed to care about it right then, he fell back asleep.
