Another completely surreal image. This looks more like a macro image of a model village until you see the countryside stretching out. The trees really do look like models! A magnificent effect, good use of your fisheye again.

Thanks, I think I have developed my IR as far as I want to now and I am pleased that this shot worked as I took it handheld.

Very nice . I love the dreamy effect of IR filter. Must be hard to take a picture without tripod.
I enjoy in old architecture very much, specially castles. If I remember correctly, Blarney is medieval fortress. Have you kissed the Stone of Eloquence? There are many legends about the origin of the stone...

Yes, I kissed the stone, taking IR pictures is hard without a tripod, other stuff is easy

the combination of the not-totally crisp areas (slow handheld shutter speed? gelatine filter?) and the fisheye lens barrelling the horizon, and the surreal results the ir filter produces all add to the illusion of this image being of a tiny model world rather than a huge castle.
this photo made my evening. it rocks.
the only possible straw i could grasp at concerning it's possible improvement would be that the three square black panels in roof draw my eye slightly.
amazing stuff, keep up the good work.

The not totally crisp areas is also down to shooting at f2.8. I understand the distraction from the panels in the roof, but a crop of them left an image I was not really happy with. I am glad I made your evening. This photo made my evening when I processed it after the holidays and I realised I had something I liked. Messing around taking handheld IR shots paid off

i'd clone the panels out rather than crop the image, but thats me.
may i ask, how you process your ir to get the lovely subtle colours you have here? mine are always either reddish or purple, and the only way i've managed to process them is to convert them to mono....is it to do with colour balance?

What camera do you use? If possible use a custom white balance reading, take this with the filter ON. To process you swap the red and blue channels in channel mixer then swap the hue. I use photoshop to process them. I always get better results if I have used a custom white balance reading.
Good luck.

Wow, that's what the view must be like from a wizard's tower! The highest tower in the world with a view all the way to the edges of an enchanted world... What a great combination of IR and fisheye! I really like the combination of the smaller towers and the view of the wide land here. They're probably not that much smaller, but with the fisheye distortion they look like lesser hills seen from the top of the highest mountain!

Thank you, I was messing around that day shooting handheld IR and it was not easy, and is only really possible with my fisheye lens because the focal length is so short. I feel like I can see the entire world in this shot and being above the towers really did add height. They were a bit smaller than the castle, but not as small as they look here and they give a real sense of height in the shot. Thank you again for your comment.

We have to do something together soon, like having a cup of tea or something. I just need to get some money first.

MMmm thats nice
what fisheye lens do you have?
I recently got the sigma 10-20mm but yeah... a 77mm IR filter would be very expensive. I hold the 52mm on the front and it seems to work fine at 11 or 12mm focal length S:
What gelatin filter do u have for IR? is it affordable?

I have a nikon 10.5mm fisheye. I cannot attach filters to the front of it, so I use gelatine material instead. I found some good Ilford IR gelatine and I just cut it to size. The filter cost me £10 for two pieces which is enough for eight filters, but it is really hard to get hold of now. Hope this helps.

I'll keep a lookout on gelatin filters. thinking of wratten 89b.
Which ilford is it, do u know the model number? I wanna get some

It is Ilford SFX gelatine filter material. It is really hard to get hold of, but worth the hunt.
