Description Well, this is the second attempt with my IR filter... it was getting too dark, I really needed more light. However, i have manged to figure out how to do a custom white balance The results are getting stranger and stranger.

I have not cropped this, just used curves and brightness and contrast, i also knocked the hue down slightly to bring the red out. The sky was a sickly yellow on the RAW file.

I like it because it feels so other wordly... oh and the goose posed beautifully... i think it might have been thinking of roosting there for the night he he.

just do a google search on infrared photography, you will find enough info to keep you out of mischief for a couple of hours at least

Thank you I like looking at this one too I actually didn't really like it when i first shot it, but its one of those rare shots where all the elements seem to just fall into place. Incidentally I shot it blind too

Realy nice capture and FX.
Love the post-apocalyptic mood, the goose is like a new life in a dead world.
Myabe the goose should glow a bit will show something like the rebirth of the new world.
Very nice work on the tone and post-production.

Thank you so much, this picture was one of those shots where everything just comes together nicely. I love it for those reasons...... I could make the goose glow a bit more..... but I think it is fine as it is

Nice shot, other fun things to try with IR are swapping the blue and red channels (makes your shots look like snow ) and making composites of IR and true colour shots

wow! i have got to get an IR filter for my 8800!! are you using a Nikon filter?

amazing shot! the goose couldnt have been in a better position!!!

crazy1ady In reply to belfast-steve [2005-05-11 08:17:38 +0000 UTC]

I am using a Hoya R72 filter. I dont know anything about the camera you have, it is worth checking that the camera is sensitive to IR if it is a digital one.

belfast-steve In reply to crazy1ady [2005-05-11 11:49:32 +0000 UTC]

My Nikon is the Coolpix 8800!! I just looked at a remote control through the viewfinder......it is sensitive to IR WHOOP WHOOP!!!! Maybe when I get my filter you can give me some tips!! I heard that some stunning urban shots can be taken with an IR filter...have you ever tried this? buildings etc

crazy1ady In reply to belfast-steve [2005-05-11 13:27:48 +0000 UTC]

Get a Hoya R72 filter and we will chat then.... If you want to check some good urban shots then have a look at work. He has been taking IR shots in urban areas and they look fab.

Wow, I won't be surprised to see this appear as a daily deviant too. The colour balance between the brown sky, grey flora and the pure white of the goose is magnificent!

:Giggle: Maybe.... but someone needs to nominate it... I don't think I could cope with the response just yet lol. Its taken me nearly three days to answer the messages and I am still going......

Thank you so much for the comment about this photo though. That goose may look magnificent........but its evil! It hissed at me!

Are you photographing in medium format? The clarity of your images is beautiful!

No, I am using a Nikon D70 Digital camera. I wish I could afford to own a medium format........

Thank you for your comment. This was taken at dusk and the camera really didnt like it. There is an unprocessed version in my scraps if you are interested in what it looked like before I adjusted. The night was so still and the goose posed so well too, i haven't been able to get close to this again.......

0.0 was this shot on a digital camera? oh wait... d70 just kidding... thats fricken hawt!

hehe, i thought this was great cuz i modified my webcamera to view only the ir spectrum, so basicly it can see in the dark. Try hooking a black light up near you for dark shots, perferably one of the decent ones. i think youll be surprised. it acts like spot lighting and can give some pretty cool effects.
