Description Starscream- Originally, i ordered a DotM Mechtech Laserbeak, but ended up getting this due to the seller being out of Laserbeaks- not that I'm complaining, really. So, the review. starscream is a fairly movie acurate version as things go, and his kibble in jet mode is limited, which is always a plus. He's easy to transform, save his arms, which took me a little practice. His detailing is fairly decent as well, and he's most certainly durable. His joints sometimes pop off, but, as with most Transformers I've played with, the limbs are easily reattatched. His weapon is also rather enjoyable, being some strange Blaster/ sword/ double bladed staff thing.

Oh yes, a wonderful figure- I'm going to get another one to try my hand at costumizing, do one of my fan characters. I REALLY don't get why this figure gets such HATE!

this figure suprised me a lot too
i bought him at a disscount price after Christmas and was very impressed with his over all look and articulation
a rather well representation of movie starscream in my opinion
a lot of people bash this figure, but once you have it in hand, he is a lot better than people say
i ended up pegging the large rifle looking blasters of autobot topspin to the ports on his arms
just to make him look a tad bit better
but great pic of him, never can get a decent photo of mine because of the flash refelcting of the white bits

he is one of my favorites from the DOTM line
and if you are going to customize
i suggest testors painters markers
or testors model car paint
both are stroke free
it is what i use on all my customs
cheap, easy to use
it is what i used when i made these customs:

this one is a working progress

VERY cool Customs you've got there!
I'll have to look into that stuff, I've got a Prime Arcee that I want to do some work on to get a Prime Nightbird (So my Prime Megatron won't be lonely!), and I want to buy two Vehicons and Redeco one into a Prime Barricade, so deffinitely, I have to look into that! (I also need to get a JOB to afford those vehicons, but that's a minor detail!

i was happy when i managed to find a vehicon at K-mart of all places
i was debating on getting all three that they had, but 18 bucks each was a hell of a hurtful price, so i settled on one
barricade would be an awesome custom
and love the idea for nightbird
I scratch built a nightbird as well
[link]
testors paint markers and testors spray paint is around 2.50 each
and the model car paint by testors that i used on wasp
was about 1.50 per bottle
so it is rather cheap
i want a second RID arcee myself to give Flame war the deluxe figure she sooooo much deserves (bad ass looking legion class figure)

CrazyGfan In reply to lovefistfury [2012-11-12 05:22:55 +0000 UTC]

Where could I find this Testors paint? I totally want to get some now so I can finish with my remolding of Arcee's blade into a sword and her gun into a BIGGER gun.
KMart, eh? I need to find one close to me, it seems...
I'm glad you like my Barricade idea. Him and Blackout were my favorite movie Decepticons, so I enjoy brining them into the other shows when I can.
I'm thinking of building my Blackout from scratch, with wire, clay and model kit parts...

lovefistfury In reply to CrazyGfan [2012-11-12 06:11:12 +0000 UTC]

blackout was without a doubt my favorite movie decepticon, hands down
he had the coolest ability. loved him, even in the game he was just fun to play. cant deny he just looks awesome lol
and you can get testors spray paint and paint markers at wal mart, target and michael's craft store
as for the model car paint, I buy mine from hobby lobby. which they have an online website if you do not have one near you, and you can also get it from amazon
as for scratch building blackout. I suggest using tomahawk(easy to find him for a good price) or you could just use a helicopter model kit
some wire of course, and for the clay, use epoxy resin adeheisive. can get it for 3.00 at any wal mart. comes in a small container. super sticky so roll it around in your hands before molding it to get it dryer. but it works wonders. hardens like a hard rubber like material and is permanent. I used it for Wasp's mouth plate, nightbird's cheast, and elita one's entire body

CrazyGfan In reply to lovefistfury [2012-11-12 13:57:47 +0000 UTC]

Of course, I'll have to do a Prime Laserbeak inspired Scorponok... Maybe he forms Blackout's rotors or that tailfin piece...
Awesome! I'll deffinitely look into that stuff!
And I've worked with that epoxy before to make a stop motion model, I loved it. Comes in a small tube of sorts?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lovefistfury In reply to CrazyGfan [2012-11-12 20:30:44 +0000 UTC]

yeah a small plastic tube
you can also get two part liquid epoxy for a simialr price
that you mix together and can make molds with
use it to make head casts a lot

Oh, I like that idea... Could buy a G1 Ratchet and give him an actual head!

lovefistfury In reply to CrazyGfan [2012-11-12 21:59:37 +0000 UTC]

I gear customs did that with him and ironhide
they look cool with the heads too!
but i would just be cheap and repaint my energon towline into either ironhide or ratchet
cause he is perfect for either one

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CrazyGfan In reply to lovefistfury [2012-11-12 22:34:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I can see him working as that... I just started gettin my Prime Arcee ready to be Nightbird, and my Prime Bumblebee ready to be Prowl. I took Bumblebee's feet off, they'll make some awesome addons for Nightbird. And then Prowl gets clawed feet. 'Cause Clawed feet are awesome.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lovefistfury In reply to CrazyGfan [2012-11-13 00:17:26 +0000 UTC]

clawed feet are awesome yes
and hmmm bumblebee into prowl
not a bad idea actually! cool way to utilize the many many many bees flooding the shelves
could add ratchet's head to him to give him more of a prowl like head with the crest and actual face

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CrazyGfan In reply to lovefistfury [2012-11-13 00:44:30 +0000 UTC]

I'm probably gonna buy a broken Animated prowl off Ebay and use him for some spare parts to make an OC of mine, and I'll take that head and modify it. I honestly love the Animated Prowl Face, and if he'll fit on Delux Prime Bumblebee, he's going on and becoming part of a different continuity!
I eventually wanna do a Devastator the way I'm gonna do my Prime Blackout, by taking model kits and wire and epoxy and the like and making the individual Constructicons so they can combine. Make him sort of Movie/G1 hybrid...

had a really nice head sculpt, nice G1 style to it

CrazyGfan In reply to lovefistfury [2012-11-13 01:44:45 +0000 UTC]

I built one for my Mom once, I've got a whole supply list!
Wood dowels of your choice in size; Wood glue; tan fabric, sized to fit over the box; light source; sewing skills, velcro.
What you do is build a cube frame from the dowels and glue it together, then cut the cloth to shape around it. Cut three edges of a square from the cloth and sew velcor to them and the cube so it can be well lit from any angle (And you can put your object to photograph in!)
Hers worked pretty well, then the dog ate it and I never got around to building a new one cause she splurged on an actual light box for her birthday the next year.

certainly would work better than my normal cardboard box i use lol

I've started catologing all the OC's I come up with for Transformers. First to be customized is Starscream into Hacksaw! then I've got a DotM Sideswipe who's just begging to be turned into a femme...
I wanna find some pharmacy knockoffs and custmize them into new transformers...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lovefistfury In reply to CrazyGfan [2012-11-15 20:16:18 +0000 UTC]

knockoffs are the best way to go, easy to afford and easy to modify
and yes, I think sideswipe's mold is perfect for a femme
i wanted to turn one of mine into moon racer a while back
but decided not to because my ROTF sideswipe is the only one i have
other than darksteel, course i could use dark steel because dollar general is loaded with him and topspin, but IDK
look forward to seeing a few of your works

I always saw them as a kid, but never see them now... Need to look harder, I guess!
I'm turning him into a femm of my own creation called "Blastburner", but I need to decide a color scheme for her. Do I paint her to match her fellow Decepticon OC, Hacksaw? Or something else, based off of her special power? It's a mystery...
Started work on Nightbird, need to get some Epoxy now though, or she won't have any additional features, she'll just be Arcee painted funny... So I'm gonna take Starscream and get him done, as he won't need remolding, just his signature hacksaws, which I'll make later...

family dollar has a few good knock offs
as does big lots

really good material too, very posable and a really nice realistic alternate mode

Don't think I'm near a Big lots, but... If I'm ever near one I'll know what to look for!
Just started the second layer of paint on Screamer- with luck he'll be dry by morning!

So, what sort of quality are the Knock offs at Family Dollar?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lovefistfury In reply to CrazyGfan [2012-11-16 05:01:30 +0000 UTC]

depends what you use
the generation one knockoffs are really good material, real solid
the movie figure KOs and oversized cyberverse legion/legends are delicate around the joints, but still can be modified to make a nice custom
bought a KO oversided legends RTS hound, painted him up, adding stickers
took some resin and made the front grill parts accurate, will look nice
