In which I envision a scenario where Tomato had found out about Cheese's situation in "The Last Laugh".
I mean, Cheese didn't want anyone to see him like that, so in my 'verse, he especially didn't want Tommy to see his sorry state.
Something like this comic is why. Calm down, Tomato, you know Cheese has been through plenty of crud. Just call Pinkie for this one.

Anyway, a few people had noticed similarities between Tomato and Sans Smirk, since they're both businessponies that are the more low-key, down-to-earth foil for Cheese, and are both genuinely good ponies who do care for him. Still, thanks to character evolution over the years, Tomato might be just a teensy bit more temperamental.

Also, last panel is based on an exchange my sister KnightA3 and I came up with during a role play game. We loved it so much that we're both looking for excuses to use it in our respective art/stories. Thank you Sans Smirk for being the perfect pony to say the second part of it (though the original exchange used "terrified", but that word had connotations that didn't exactly match this situation).
