As for my hatred of Maud... well...

It started off as just new episode hype dying down, and I just got bored of Maud. After all, she began to resemble those goth girl characters who "have a heart of gold and are just misunderstood by all those 'shallow, samey preppies' and are 'special' for being different and tougher than the average girl", and those annoy me for being basically the same character (however, I do like Raven from Teen Titans for being actually pretty cool and having good reason to be stoic, and Lucy Loud from The Loud House for being an insecure eight-year-old who's walked over all the time).

I give Maud credit for at least having interest in geology and not the macabre, but the predictable rock jokes and unending dry humor (and lack of actual interesting geology stuff) just grew stale, and her monotone is really grating to my ears. Not to mention, as a fanfiction writer, it feels like I had to slap her in a scene of a fic (AU CheesePie fic on the rock farm) and go, "She's here, whoop-dee-doo." She's so one-note and boring that I have a hard time thinking of any good story ideas (I only have one, where she and Cheese Sandwich share a birthday, but even then, it's more about Pinkie and Cheese's brother working together on a party for them).

But what really grinds my gears is how incredibly overrated she is. I give Luna a pass because I do find her interesting, and I gave Trixie a pass because she was funny and actually fun to write in fanfiction (she's getting a little annoying in recent episodes). But Maud? Let's just say that I'm so sick and tired of bumping into people praising her and boosting her up as some perfect, unbreakable goddess who can do no wrong, and the Mane Six and whoever else she interacts with have to bend over backwards just to please her. It gets on my nerves when even the show does it, even though I saw that in her debut episode, while the Mane Six approached trying to befriend her the wrong way, she's also at fault for not trying to meet them halfway! 

I also resent the implication a lot of people give that those with autism, like me, have to relate to her for being 'different'. Um, no, that's not happening. Cheese Sandwich was the pony who I came the closest to relating to (heck, I often take cues from both myself and my brother when writing him in a fanfic).

On another note, if one dares to step on Cheese to boost up Maud, I despise Maud more, and I automatically dislike that person for bringing up my favorite pony just to do that to him. I mean, that was the final straw for me that made me give up on trying to like her. Her "woe is me, I'm lonely, nopony gets me" in her latest appearance is too little, too late.

That just about covers it. Sorry for the long rant; I tend to be an all-or-nothing kind of person.

Its fine, I've never thought about that before! And actually, your right she is a pretty boring character. However, I still like how Maud saved Pinkie from her own 'rock slide' but I think it's just the writers trying to tell us that Maud is misunderstood and is actually a good pony. Maud isn't exactly an exciting character and she really isn't the best choice for fan fictions, being a writer myself I can relate to you here.
