Its a twist of the children's rhyme... I only remember picking daisies as a child, and on the word 'off' I'd flip the head of the daisy off with my thumb.

Ha one of my old friends used to do that, she'd pick dandelions and say "Momma had a baby and the head popped off!", simulatenously enacting it with the weed. XD I used to crack up terribly over it.
