You remind me very much of someone I used to know. It's a very interesting look.

Do I? May I ask who?

Just someone I knew back when I was in sixth-form. An old friend of mine that I don't speak to anymore...

Sixth-form?

Well here in the UK Highschool stops at 16, and the years 17-18 are either College or Sixth-form. Sixthform basically means staying in highschool, kind of like they do in America, I think.

Personally I both went to sixthform and College. Long story. (laughs)

Well, I'm not sure I can list the differences...I don't know all the ins and outs of the school system over there, so I don't know all the ways that the system over here is different...

We have Pre-school (though it's not compulsory) from around the age of 2, until we're 5. After that we start Primary school until we're 11. From then we have high school until we're 16, at which point we take our GCSEs. From here we can either start work, or move onto Sixthform, or College. What you can take in sixthform or College depends on your grades at GCSE. At this stage, we take either our A-levels, or another A-level equivalent course (though you can repeat GCSEs at College if you fail some.). This goes on for two more years, or more if you decide to take more subjects. Most Colleges offer further education in certain fields, allowing higher qualifications if you take them on, but most people who go to College intend to go to University. University can last anywhere from 2 years to 10, and even longer depending on what you take, and how far you take it. You don't have to start University at 18, you can start later in your life...

Phew, that was a lot.

Wow, sounds cool! Thank you for telling me ^-^ Are you excited for your next school, then?

I am! I never really figured on going to university after my sixth-form because I'd always figured it was something pulled out of my reach, something beyond my capability. Not only have I proven myself wrong, but I've now got a chance to chase after some dreams of mine, even if some other dreams are dead.

And it also means I get to stay in education longer, which, if I've learned anything, is something I quite enjoy. I love the atmosphere around educational facilities...

That's good! That's awesome! I still don't know for certain what I'm doing after I graduate. I mean, I live across the street from a community college, but I still don't know if I'm going there for the fall semester. So many of my classmates have gotten accepted to art institutes and music academies, and music is my true passion, it far surpasses my love for photography, it always has. I've always been the unprepared one in life, and I'm truly scared to leave high school because I have no idea where to go. Do you have any advice for me?

Melanophrionsa In reply to CreateNoReflection [2009-02-13 20:35:49 +0000 UTC]

My advice is don't wait, and don't follow anything but your dream (laughs) It sounds really strange to say, but I've got good reasoning behind it. Thanks to a particularly cruel lady, my plans for my future were sabotaged at a fairly early stage, I ended up taking a gap year away from everything- and regretted it immensely. I started following a path again, taking lessons nearer to what I wanted to do, but after that I took another year- this year- because I figured I wasn't cut out for University. In the end, unprepared or not, jumping straight in and working towards a passion that you feel strongly for is far better than putting it off only to end up wishing you'd pursued it later. I mean, I'm 21, some people are finishing University at my age, and by the time September comes around, I'll almost be 22...

So basically don't dawdle- jump at your dreams. Don't waste time following something that won't lead you to where you want to be, and try not to be afraid (it's hard, I know).

I think you're quite right. I'm starting to rethink my plans a bit. I think I'll see what I can do with music first, as much as I like photo, I think I want to find out my chances for music. ^^ Thank you so much for your help!

@ How was your Valentine's Day?

Melanophrionsa In reply to CreateNoReflection [2009-02-15 10:54:10 +0000 UTC]

Quiet. I'm happily single at current, so it was pretty much like any other day... Other than that, this time 2 years ago something harsh happened on V-day, so I guess I casually recalled older times as well. Oh, I also got a letter from my university giving me the codes to get onto one of their servers...It's kind of barren and empty, so not much to say on that subject.

How was yours?

Ah. Mine was all right, I had to work, but yesterday I got to spend the day with someone really special to me, so it was a kind of belated Valentine's Day celebration for me ^_^ It was very good.

Melanophrionsa In reply to CreateNoReflection [2009-02-16 22:02:22 +0000 UTC]

It's just a day, so having a belated version of it still rules (chuckles quietly) I guess all special occasions are like that.

Yeah, it was worth the time. ^-^ I even violated a trespassing law to get to the rendezvous point. It was a thrill!

Melanophrionsa In reply to CreateNoReflection [2009-02-18 13:30:23 +0000 UTC]

(laughs quietly) When it stops being a thrill you know you do it too often Though for me it was never a thrill, it was just a sign and a fence in my way that I ignored. I cut the barbed wire and moved through. That'll teach those bastards to fence off my favourite place.

CreateNoReflection In reply to Melanophrionsa [2009-02-20 04:35:36 +0000 UTC]

haha right on!
I love a good thrill once in awhile and what does the fence really do, keep us out or keep something in?

Land really shouldn't be owned...or if it is, people really shouldn't try to stop others from visiting it. Hell knows that most of the beautiful places out there have a large "No entry to public!" stamp on the outside, and it drives me crazy having to look over my shoulder when sneaking into a place I used to be able to walk into as a kid.

CreateNoReflection In reply to Melanophrionsa [2009-03-04 01:21:34 +0000 UTC]

I agree. I personally love to go into places just to stand in the middle of the room, it's amazing what that can do for a person. But most places these days won't let you do that. If I had my way I'd spend all kinds of time in some of the little museums and houses here in the city, but unfortunately they don't allow it, even if you're willing to -pay- them to, for Gog's sake. I dunno what they're so afraid of..

Melanophrionsa In reply to CreateNoReflection [2009-03-05 17:49:27 +0000 UTC]

(chuckles quietly) People are...closed. The whole world is closed. They'd do anything to keep "their" sights to themselves...

I'd love to visit the flat I used to occasionally stay at with my γιαγιά, but I doubt the owners would even let me stand in the front room... And either way, I'm not sure it'd be the same.

CreateNoReflection In reply to Melanophrionsa [2009-03-14 17:19:42 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know what you mean. The house I used to live in feels alien to me when I visit it now, and I lived there for the first ten years of my life. I think once you see a place in one light or time, the next time doesn't seem right. It's heartbreaking sometimes.

It is... It's like that place you held so strongly is now broken, and chances are you'll never see it fixed again...

CreateNoReflection In reply to Melanophrionsa [2009-04-15 01:54:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. That's a painful prospect, too. Just the very thought of something being broken for good, y'know?

I do... When you know that something is gone and will truly never be seen or known as it once was again, it shakes you...To the core.
