Description Well, here's one that's very close to the kind of drops I'm looking to achieve... Only problem I have is that I didn't have my FStop high enough to bring everything completely into focus

But overall I like the image, so I'm uploading it for everyone to see

Enjoy!

The colors are awesome I wish I knew more about macro photography so I could critique this properly

LOL, well, even if you're not a macro photographer, you at least like the artistry of it... So, if you're happy then I'm happy

I like these much more than the previous ones for some reason. The splash itself is just brilliantly sharp ! Would've been epic if the large drop would be a bit sharper, but I like the idea of the small drops creating a sort of bokeh ! They give the shot a bit of a 'calmer' feeling, like you really captured a moment in time - not the movement.

Thanks glad you like it. Yeah, I'd prefer the other drop to be in focus as well, but I didn't set my fstop high enough... should have gone with an F14 and an 800 ISO... Next time though

Hmm, I like the fstop how it is, the drop just should've behaved better, haha

hahaha... yeah well, if I could get the drops to behave the way I wanted I would have the exact splashes that I'm currently trying to achieve

Awesome! I hope you don't mind me asking, but i'm just starting to experiment with macro photography, and i'm curious about the 1/2 second shutter speed. I would have thought that the drops would be really blurred at that speed?

Creative--Dragon In reply to CapturingTheNight [2011-06-25 07:28:43 +0000 UTC]

Thank you and nope, I don't mind questions. The shutter speed has no affect in capturing the drop, it's the speed of the flash that captures the splash.
For all of my recent drops I usually use around a half second shutter speed.
Order of events:
1. Shutter is opened
2. Drop is released
3. Flash is fired
4. Shutter is closed

For the Drop/Flash timing I'm using a device call the Time Machine and Drip Kit by Mumford Micro Systems.
The same type of drops can be achieved without the kit, but the kit allows me more constancy then doing it by hand, and I can experiment with various drip rates, flash lag, drop sizes, and drop intervals.

Even with using the Time Machine I have not yet reached the Triple Drop perfection that I'm looking for. I've been experimenting with many different timing factors as well as water tension, and what not. But.... I'm getting close... Muahahahahahahaha

Anyhow, a bit of a long winded answer. I hope this helps

Cheers,

Ah, I see. Thank you so much for explaining how you do it. I Googled that kit and found their website. Man that's a mighty impressive setup. I hope you get that triple drop perfected soon. Thanks again.
