Okay cheesy name. But I'm entering it into a contest through to draw an Eastern style dragon with an orb. Worked my butt off on this. I thought I'd never finish this thing - mostly cause I was working on it at 3000x2000 pixels and kept getting angry cause Painter would freeze every time I switched a tool and I had to wait 2 minutes for it to get unstuck. Then I found out the image was 131 MB!!!Yikes...so I won't be doing that again...not soon anyways. But it made for some nice detail I think...
Done in Photoshop and Painter.

Wow, it really looks like a painting. I like the clouds, they give an extra oriental feeling. And the dragon is wise and peaceful like oriental dragons usually are. The orb is the symbol of wisdom he guards, isn't it? This time, it's the Sun itself.:. who is Amaterasu in Japanese mythology as far as I know.

No, no story. And the 'orb' or sun is really just to fulfill the contest requirement. with the color scheme and all, i thought it'd be especially interesting for the dragon to be holding the 'sun'- or orb in his mouth.
Usually the orbs with Eastern dragons are pearls of wisdom or something like that.
I didn't really think about anything beyond the theme and the feeling I wanted to give it.
I'm an amatuer with Eastern mythology as well. I could barely remember how many toes go with which kind of dragon. I'm thinkin it's 3=China, 5=Japan, and 4 is Korea or something like that.
Then i heard recently that there's supposed to be 81 scales or something like that. I thought "no way in hell am I counting". Then the Golden Chinese dragons are imperial and that sort of thing. There's truckloads of information on it. I hadn't paid much attention though.

That sounds interesting... and I bet those numbers have meaning also. I heard about the yin-yang thing, that it's equivalent to the fight of the tiger and the dragon. Static and dynamic, male and female, so on.
