what I normally do is either physically do the pose(and no I did not do a handstand for this, but I wish I could do that), imagine the pose and sketch a stick figure of it (i did that for this drawing), or I look at a million different refs and draw out a varied pose. Also looking at body parts at many different angles really helps when your doing 3/4 facing poses.
On some days I just can't think of any pose to draw and it sucks when I can't think of anything ;n; I call those my off days
