Description

Gemshells are small snail-like creatures with a distinctive shell on their back, which is actually a set of living minerals or gemstones. While gemshells usually look somewhat plain in wild nature, this species is of great interest for people of art or collectors. Many generations of gemshells were bred and kept in a special environment with the aim of giving them unusual colors, traits and shell patterns, which makes this creature a perfect way of self-expression. Most gemshells will eventually shed their shell to grow a new one. Shed shells of these creatures are very valuable and can be sold to collectors or jewelers, and sometimes it causes great pain since some people tend to cut off the shells for selling them on the black market. This is of course illegal, and it's easy to find out whether a shell was shed in a natural way or forced out of the creature. But it is still saddening to realize that someone ended a tiny life solely for gaining profit.
