'Parade of the Tin Soldiers' by the New Light Symphony Orchestra: youtu.be/gvqpw6tlj9k?t=15
'Nut Rocker' by B. Bumble & the Stingers: youtu.be/Op2U-qGUDkg
Given how the whole internet has been talking about it non-stop from the moment Inkling Girl watched helplessly as all her Nintendo friends burned to death in front of her back in March to the Friday a couple of weeks ago when it was released, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate better be the single greatest piece of interactive entertainment ever put out by a games company thus far if it's going to live up to the hype it's whipped up for itself. Now that I've set the record for shortest length of time taken for a DeviantArt description to become snarky and jaded, I might as well bring up how as of late I've started to wonder if my apathetic lack of interest in video games, movies or pop-culture of any kind isn't a result of "growing up" so much as it's the result of some undiagnosed psychological disorder. I know everyone has unique interests and it's not something to get worked up about, but when you're saying no to everything everyone's endorsing, even if it's related to something you'd normally have an interest in, it does give you some pause.
Even if I am mentally ill though, I'm not mentally ill enough to hallucinate little parades of Pikachus waddling through the gumdrop forest just yet. If that's what you're looking for, the closest thing at the moment is the annual Pikachu Outbreak they hold every year in Yokohama, Japan, where you can witness scores and scores of people dressed in the most darling Pikachu costumes bouncing around town like an infestation the Pokémon exterminators have been unable to contain. It's impossible for me not to crack a smile seeing the endless steam of big-headed bunny things bop around the streets like they're all on strike from Nintendo and have walked out en masse for the most adorable protest ever since Elmo drunkenly espoused anti-semetic rhetoric at the Toys R Us building in Times Square (and to prove I'm not kidding: youtu.be/lxr5bn--9cw ).
It's even cuter if you play something like the march from the Nutcracker Suite or the Parade of the Tin Soldiers over it like it's propaganda for the Pokémon troops. But I got the idea for this by listening to Midnight Syndicate's aggressive and warlike cover of the above - if you play something darker and more intense over it, it may become more scary and intimidating, like they're rabid or an invasion force or about to yell something offensive about Judaism for instance. I also got the idea for this from finding out that the March from the Nutcracker was just called the March from the Nutcracker. I thought about how weird it would be if there was a whole re-enactment of the Nutcracker ballet featuring Pokémon characters, then I realized that sounds like something Nintendo would seriously consider. There already is a Pokémon stage musical after all, though I've got no idea what it's like. I'd imagine there's only so many lyrics you could make out of "pika-pika" before you start having the same problem as Nickelback.
