Description
...mi[nd]graine...I was hanging out with my buddies when suddenly I was struck with the idea
to take pictures of bursting waterbaloons.
I started to restructure and redecorate our bathroom into
something that resembles a photostudio
will follow soon).
4 hours of hanging around in the bathtub, managing the lights and
contrasts, testing various balloons and trying millions of angles followed. During this session me and my roommate * fritsch came up with
even more ideas how to work this particular technique/concept into other
types of photographs. More of these will be on DA soon.
I'm still not quite satisfied with the lighting, but I thought this piece
would be a good start into this new series. Hopefully I'll get better along
the way.
Big thanks go out to *fritsch for the technical support and millions
of other things..
and thereby giving the piece a deeper meaning.
It was a pretty tough project, but i think it was worth it...Well, it was fun, that's for sure..
Technical stuff:
Photoshop work
I think this is my most difficult and complex work so far, so please don't be do hard on me

im not a huge fan of studio photography but u make it look so much fun!

Amazing --was rather perplexed about how you made it until I read the description.
I like how the shape of the bursting balloon can also substitute for a head. Would never have thought that you did this in your bathroom. The digital manipulation is great -- it's nice that you didn't leave any traces of the programs you used.
You have really good pieces in your gallery.

if you're still up for a series, i might suggest you show the head (face) too next time. here it's like 2in1: the water-ball and the no-head idea. althou this one looks good too, and it fits perfectly

Man, this is the coolest picture I have ever seen!! Simple, well-lighted, well-frozen, fits the title perfectly, symetrically framed, and gives me a very hard time swinging from one interpretation to another in rapid succession.

wow it took me 10 mins to scroll down to the bottom...
I love this photo. I don't normally fav many images (I'm really picky). But this ones a deffinate fav.
Can I just ask a some questions, how did you pop the balloon? did the model have a needle in her hands?
Did you use a particular type of balloon so it would pop and not just punkture the balloon?
Did you have a rapid fire camera? and what shutter speed did you use (450)?
Again great photo

this is really superb
it feels off center though, i think perhaps it is because the water moves the way it wants

Friggin' amazing.
The texture on the water ball is fantastic, it's almost the same looking texture as a brain.
The 'v' wave coming out into the foreground looks really cool. Water is a fascinating substance...

hrmm weird-- i thought for sure i had faved this already. well if i hadnt-- i will now. awesome picture. i love the concept and the execution. you really thought this one out. i love pictures like that. my brother gets migranes alot. he once described the migrane as the feeling you would get right before your head explodes from the inside out. this is almost exactly what i was imagining when he described that to me. Awesome work! i love the contrast between the background and the image. if you could-- please post a in the making image if you have one. i would love to see your setup for this image. im trying to work on studio photography myself. this images studio work is marvelous. you truly are talented. i commend you! great image!

this so rox...yanno....i love this out of the 3 best. i don't know why....i think it's because it's where the idea stemmed from and even though it was your first piece of the series, i think the end result is more finely tuned, and i'm loving the cropping.

I was wondering how you managed to get the water to explode like that in your hands, and I guess the waterbaloon idea never even occured to me. The capture is great, especially the way you got the water to freeze in mid-air like that.
I actually like the lighting in this quite a bit. The use of a black back drop gives the water and the skin tones some extra attention. I like how the dim parts of the arm on the right fade into that same background. Also, the symmetry is interesting as well. Not sure if you were going for that, but I noticed it right away.
Excellent work. I'd love to see the "making of" photos to get an idea of how this all came together.

I think this shot is really cool; the idea and the execution are excellent. The only thing I wonder about is your decision to frame it with so much black space on top. To me that's just useless space that takes focus away from the image. I also apologize if someone already said this, but that's a lot of comments to read
Great job
