Description Chapter 9---The Somewhat-Great Escape

Time Unknown

Once Tanya left the room, I immediately began trying to get loose from my bonds. I tried kicking with my feet, but they were tied so tight that I couldn’t get more than a few inches at most. Del began trying to work the chair she was tied to towards me as quickly as she could, which was to say, not very. But somehow she managed to work the back of her chair against mine and we tried reaching for the ropes that bound our wrists, with little success.

Ms. Trace, meanwhile, was swinging her legs up & down trying to reach the rope that held her suspended above the floor. Eventually, she  was hanging upside-down, her ankles touching the rope. I wasn’t sure what she had in mind, but I suddenly heard a small snickt as a sliver of a sharp object popped out of one of her high-heeled boots. She then began working on that rope trying to cut through it. I could see the rope she was working on begin to fray as she rubbed the object against it. Before I knew it, the rope gave way and Ms. Trace landed on the floor with a dull thud. It made so much noise that I feared someone would hear it, but after a while Ms. Trace slowly but surely began to get to her feet, the stiletto in her heel retracting as she did so. Once that was accomplished, she began hopping toward the console  that Tanya was working on. She began rummaging through it till she found what she was looking for: a small pair of pliers which she began to cut the ropes binding her wrists. It wasn’t long before they give way, after which she quickly managed to slip out of the rest of her bindings.

The moment she was free, she approached us and quickly freed us from our bindings. I rubbed my wrists trying to get the circulation back into them. Del, meantime, threw her arms around Ms. Trace as she was released. “I knew you would get us out,” she whispered.

“Of course, my dear,” Ms. Trace replied, “But, we’re not in the clear yet. Besides, shouldn’t you be introducing me to your friend here?” I suddenly looked up as she mentioned me.

“Oh, right!” Del quickly broke her embrace and walked toward me. “Lara, this is Angelia Trace.”

“Hello,” I replied ,rather nervously.

“She’s my guardian angel,” Del added.

Angelia forced a grin at that. “I prefer the term legal guardian, myself. Since, technically, that’s essentially what I am.” She smiled more warmly at me. “I know you must have a lot of questions, but right now, we need to get out of here as quickly as possible.”

“But, what’s all this?” I asked. “Why does this Tanya person seem so interested in you & Del?” I surprised myself when I realized I called her by the name she liked to call herself rather than her full name.

Angelia then looked around as if trying to decide how much she should reveal. Finally she said, “Let’s just say for now that Tanya & I go way back, even before Del entered my life. Since then however, it’s become more vicious between us. Now,” she added, “let’s get moving.” She gestured for us to follow us as she went for the door. And with more hope than I had since the day began I followed them through the place we were taken to against our will.
