Description
My second attempt with Faber-Castell Polychromos, and I feel this onewent better. I had more control over the medium, regarding blending and
rendering of textures.
I rarely find myself interested in drawing still life, but something
about the reference photo caught my eye. The flower is obviously dead
or dying, yet it's still beautiful. People too often mistake youth and perfection
for beauty. They're not the same thing.

This is absolutely stunning! It's so much better than a photograph, it's like the flower's actually there!

This is a magnificent rendering, showing that all stages of life, even the one most feared, contain beauty.
I wondered here from viewing the work of Cataclysm-X.
found I enjoyed viewing your work, and the detailed text.
When I spotted "In Bloom" in your gallery quite fine,
decided this just, had to be mine.
Though lacking permission, hoping I need none,
this has been added to my favorites, to late it's done.
Now I will savor the abundant texture,
enjoying often with both envy and pleasure.
Here is hoping your work will inspire,
the need in me to strive, for things much higher.
But don't believe for a monent that this sets you free,
because actually I've placed a Watch on you, and it's really for me.
Love your work, sorry to read about your Crohn's I have a similar but more contained problem, Ulcerative Colitis, I can relate.

Oh goodness. This is absolutely gorgeous - and I wish I could find better words to describe it.
Entirely agree that youth/perfection don't equal beauty. You've pretty proven it right by this artwork. In fact, it's the imperfection of it that make it perfect, in a way, if that makes sense. Anyhow, it certainly is beautiful.

It. Is. So Amazing. The way you painted it looks so, so soft and natural that I reached to touch the screen twice, expecting to feel that velvety texture of flower petals. I was in a very crappy mood, but this wonderful work improved it a lot. Thank you

I personally like the new subject matter and you represent it so well. The details are so obviously cared for and the little veins on the underside of the petals are lovely. The striking green adds a very interesting element too. I find dying or dry flowers beautiful as well.

ItΒ΄s amazing how alive this drawing is despite of the subject. The colours just flow out of the page, I feel if I touched it, it would feel like velvet (the green petal) and at the same time like drying flowers... a beauty indeed. Absolutely it!

Beautiful detail and colors. What did you use before, Prismas? Do you find Polychromos to be easier to use, better quality?

Thanks! Good question... I wouldn't say either are better than the other. They have complete opposite qualities, so ideally I'd use them both together. Polychromos are hard and dry, and sharpen to a fine point. They're excellent for fine details and textures. Prismacolors are soft and creamy, and are best for smooth or soft-focus areas, and gradients.
In this drawing I wanted the petal at the bottom to be soft-focus, but couldn't quite manage the smoothness I was going for with Polychromos. Since I have 120 Polychromos, and 150 Prismacolors, I don't intend to give either up. I'll use them together from now on.

Thanks for the excellent info! I definitely need to get some Polychromos. It's so hard to make details with Prismacolors.

The level of detail in this is amazing and I love the colours. Just look at all those veins!
It's funny, I just completed an assignment for school that involves picking a flower and drawing this same flower every day for a week. (actually, you have to draw it blind for a minute (meaning you don't look at the paper while drawing it) and after five times of this you get to look at what you're doing. And you do draw differently after trying this approach for a while. It's quite a neat experiment)
Really well done, crimefish!
