Okay...I now have the internet moved to my laptop and it...looks...like...I can post my own stuffs again? (Fingers crossed I won't jinx this by pressing the 'submit' button).Happy Valentine's day! This sketch was supposed to turn into a final, but I did three copies and Lucrecia's expression was just never as nicely captured again. So in anger and two hours later, I decided you guys would have to make-do with my messiness. This will be in scraps later.
Hojo and Lucrecia look sad because I was sad when I drew this. No, not because I had no Valentine (though, for the record, I don't), but because with the new flashy compilations to FFVII, this couple would probably get less and less attention and credit. For, we all know, DoC officially killed off the Lu-Hojo pairing in a very icky and sad way. So white roses, not red, to fair these two off. Wherever they go, I hope they are happy.
So...who wants to be my Valentine?

Screw DoC in it's High Def pixilated ass! You know all the flashbacks were from Vincent's point of veiw.. he was probably mixing the present with the past, because damnit there is NO WAY Hojo looked that old and gangly 30 years ago.
Your portayle of him here.. while very pretty.. is still the very sophisticated looking Wutainese man that one would imagine him to be looking from a strict FF7 point of veiw.
DoC is really skewed with it's contradictions to the FF7 storyline. If anything I would take it as AU. If Hojo was truly as cruel and awful as he was described in DoC 30 years ago, I cannot imagine how Lucrecia would have run to him if he treated her badly from the start.
You got the sombre expressions for this down pat, babe. And if anything, I'd gladly be your Miss Crescent for you.

N'way, I'm completely taking DoC as AU. Or just a messy fanfiction. Albeit a very beautiful messy fanfiction.
I reckon, if the flashbacks were from Vincent's pov, then Hojo should still be young, not old. After Vince woke up from his thirty year nightmare, he met with the old Hojo for all of, what, half an hour on top of the Sister Ray? If anything, Vince would have trouble adjusting to how old Hojo's gotten. So hm. Square's just setting up their protagonist, in a very un-nice way, no less.
I have to admit, I'm less and less believing of Hojo and Lucrecia's love.

Wah! Don't be discouraged! Their love had to be somewhere. You don't just up and marry someone just because omg we're both scientists!
And really what I meant was, that though the flashbacks were from Vincent POV he may have been skewing the past with the present. Not on purpose mind you. I'm reminded how Cloud screwed up his flashbacks by putting himself in the place of Zack. He didn't WANT to tell it that way, it was the mako/jenova/whatever that screwed him in the head and messed everything up. 
So perhaps the shock of seeing Hojo so old was rather burned into his memory and thus that visage covered up the 30-year-young Hojo? As sort of a catalyst to fuel Vincent's hatred for him? Because c'mon, while we love him.. he looked like he got beat with the fugly stick (and yet I still find him attractive. Waaahht.).

Hey, we're Hojo fans. Even after he got whacked repeadedly with said ugly stick, we'll STILL STICK BY HIM BECAUSE WE SEE PAST THE UGLINESS and we love HIM and not some superficial appearance.
At least, that's what I tell my friends when they bring up the subject...and then watch them back away. Fast.
Well, with the love thing, I'm playing the game again and am thinking about all the things present-Hojo says and the way he acts...and kinda...wondering if he ever was a man who could love? And Lucrecia...well, you don't get much on her AT ALL, but the way she doesn't mention Hojo when you see her...concentrating on Sephiroth...well, it's a mother thing, but still.
I think, Lu is capable of womanly love (excuse the 'womanly' attached there, but you know what I mean, right?), but Hojo...well, people can change, I guess. But his personality is...so...erm, well, jackass-like, that I wonder if I've been deluded by fanon to think he ever loved anyone besides his 'precious specimans' and his precious science?

I'm convinced to the ideal that Hojo was human once. No one's born into sadism. Sadism is external and then infects you and festers in you. I believe it might have started with his inferiority complex. Always living in the shadow of another person (Gast!). Jenova later catered to that one desire of his to be the one recognized for his own handiwork.
I think he would have had affection for her (Lucrecia) due to her want for someone to want her. She seemed very needy, very clingy, and would easily get emotionally attached to anyone who gave her the time of day. And here's Hojo:.. A man who's very kept to himself, anti-social workaholic.. who suddenly has this woman willing to do anything for him. I think that would blow his mind. XD Not only a woman who wanted him, but a woman who challenged him in a field where HE knew himself as king.
I think though, once she came to know that Hojo wasn't the type to return her affection in full force.. IE: it wasn’t enough for her what he was offering her.. That was when she turned to eyes to Vincent who WAS uber passionate, wanted to kiss the ground she walked on, etc etc. Yet as DoC gives us, her guilt over Gimoire (however you spell it) repels her away from him and sends her right back to Hojo.

Des~ Because she ends up playing both Hojo and Vincent untrue. She should NOT have rebounded between Vincent and Hojo due to her feelings of guilt. It's not fair to either one. She obviously felt much closer to Vincent, and when she couldn't deal with her guilt she went running to her second best option-and being the rebound boyfriend is not a pleasant postion to be put in.
