Description Watercolor and gouache. This is the second painting of my series of Tyrant creatures in the video game Xenoblade Chronicles X. The deer creature is named Seti, the Light of Stars and can be found in the Whale's Weeper in Noctilum at night. The papil is Sacrum, the Noctilucent.

Cervus in-game description:

These herbivores require large amounts of daily vegetation to survive, though they also absorb and store atmospheric ether in their bodies as an offensive weapon. The body parts that resemble plants are actually specialized components of exoskeletons and fur that are used for camouflage. The 'leaves' are in fact composed of ether, the brightness of which is proportionate to the creature's overall strength--and thus, symbolic of its reproductive success.

Cervuses have unusually long lifespans; generally, the longer one lives, the more skilled it becomes at ether manipulation. For this reason, the leader of the herd is often the eldest and most experienced.

Papil in-game description:

Butterfly-like creatures that use their elongated mouths to suck the sap from tall trees. Papils tend to seek out trees with poisonous sap, as they can store the toxic agents in their throats and then spit them at enemies when threatened. The glowing scales that disperse from their wings also contain poison.

Unlike adults, the larvae have a rather bland physical appearance, which aids them in mimicking tree leaves.

I really love Noctilum at night when the plants and trees begin to glow and the weather turns to energy mist.

Amazing work! I adore Noctilum as well, so this is a real treat. These creatures always look so gentle until you engage them. Excellent work capturing the atmosphere! Honestly can't rememeber if I went back and beat these guys... it's been a while.
