In the end, both were OK. The spider retreated and the tree frog ignored him.

Please see the re-submitted image here: [link] . It has better colors and detail.
Since this one is my very first submission to DA, I think I won't remove it after all.

I think it's interesting how some people commented on it being blurry.. personally, I love the extremely shallow depth of field. It really allows you to focus on what the spider is doing.
Kudos to such an amazing shot. I wouldn't have had the patience to stick around for it.
Happy holidays!

its an amazing capture! def an incredible event to catch on film. the frog's a bit out of focus though. what happened after you took it? i think we should discourage spider on frog violence.

I was photographing the tree frog and the spider just showed up on the same leaf. Then I quickly switched focus on the spider.
After a few seconds the spider realized the frog has to big for it and turned away. Happy ending!

That's a really great capture! Knowing Jumping Spiders' intelligence, it would not surprise me if that spider was not really considering attacking the frog, but actually just setting up one of those "GOTCHA" moments, like when you sneak up on a younger sibling and scare the snot out of 'em on purpose! If the frog had been facing the other way, it surely would have given in to its instinct to eat any moving object smaller than it is and eaten the spider.

You're so right. I didn't think about it, but the spider was really lucky that he didn't end up as the tree frog's lunch.
I was lucky too, to be there and get the shot.
Happy New Year!

Well, when you photograph animals, luck plays a big part in the process.

Thanks.
I once spent two weeks in Newfoundland, in Placentia, near Dildo...
I love your province, the nature, the people and the ocean are all worth coming back for.

I like how you captured the spider. It really plays out the scene of what may happen.
Hmm, would the spider and frog ignore each other, or would they interact?

You'll be glad to know that the spider, after considering the situation for a moment, turned back and went away.
The frog happily ignored him.

That's cool. Before, I saw a spider and a wasp battling each other...in the end, the spider won. But frogs are very different from wasps. >_<
