Description
Here we go! The first little sketch in my Nyokai series, which is Neko (cat) + Yokai (Japanese monsters of traditional folklore). Here, two little kittens caught in the rain are rescued by a couple of Karakasa who were out for a stroll. And while his girlfriend keeps them dry, the boy tries to ease the younger kitten's fears.Wanna learn more about traditional Yokai?
I suggest the obakemono project:

oooh! And watch the Great Yokai War!

I think its a really cute idea, I like how the handle became the tail. For some reason, cartoon cyclops cat faces are always strangely adorable.

Aww, that's so adorable. It's nice to see that people know that Japense mythology doesn't revolve ony around yurei and onryo.

Thanks!
Yokai are just so much more fun! It's only been in the last year that I have really become enamored with Mizuki Shigeru and Gegege no Kitarou.

I see then I wish I saw Gegege no Kitarou. I just know the characters and basic storyline... But I collect Kaidan stories about yokai and yurei and obakemono in general.

Well , there's Tall Tales
( Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill )
and other stories but you're right , other than that and kids / holiday stories ( Tooth Fairy , Easter Bunny , and Santa ) ..for the most part we don't really have our own thing...The Pheonix legend comes from several places , as does the unicorn and a few other creatures / stories.
It's really sad.

So cute! Combine cats with youkai and you get rain-loving cats? What a neat concept! ^_^

I think cats only hate it when it's raining dogs.

It always makes me jealous. Here we are in America, a country that is too young to have its own OLD folklore. I mean, there's Bunyan and the like, but as a nation we are made up of so many different cultures that no particular tales developed to explain things. This is so hard to put correctly. Basically what I mean is that by the time we became a nation, mankind and science had advanced to a point that we didn't need to make up stories to explain the world around us, the weird things or whathaveyou. Those tales were brought over from existing cultures. There are the tales of Native Amerians, but we can see how much those have been allowed to become part of popular folklore...
but i digress...Thanks hon!

Your welcome. YES! I COMPLETELY AGREEEEE! I mean if you go by the Native American Legends but still.... freaky cool stuff. I noticed some of those ghosts can be found here too. I never thought of letting them go by me when I hear footsteps!!
