Mongul is an alien, Leader and Champion of a coliseum called “War World” he and his fighters have traveled from planet to planet looking for champions to fight a duel for their planet Mongul and his warriors have won each fight, defeated each champion and have conquered every world. When Mongul learned that a surviving Kryptonian named "Superman" lived on Earth, he decided to bring War World to Earth to challenge Superman to a duel against him and his men. At first Superman refused to fight at his whim until Mongul threatened to destroy the Earth with Warworld's death ray if he didn't fight, Superman reluctantly accepted the challenge to save the Earth. Superman defeated all the warriors of World War until he reached Mongul. The fight was difficult but in the end Superman defeated Mongul and destroyed the lightning bolt in the World War coliseum, but Mongul swore that one day he would return to Earth and take revenge against Superman for defeating him.
