The art is a little old so please excuse that. But this is the official trait guide for Tallow Wicks! The back candles are not required on the species.

~Biography about the Tallow Wicks~

Tallow Wicks are candle-like ponies that are created from a very special wax. However, this wax is not living/ sentient, and used to be crafted as a sort of commission a rich mare or stallion would buy at first. However, while the grieving candle maker was creating a tribute to his dying mother, a magical disturbance occurred, ending up bringing his candle sculpture to life. From that day forward, he earned the ability to bring his creations to life, as long as he used the special wax for his creations.

This wax seemed to generate into its own shape, and slowly shape up the pony into a votive size, even if they started off at tea light size. It also seemed as if the Tallow wicks burned longer than any other candle, lasting up to 70 years. As the candle maker observed, it seemed that once a Tallow Wicks reached their final size, they would begin to slowly melt, starting at the hooves. They would progressively get smaller and smaller, until finally they burst into a display of fire, leaving behind only a bit of wax being. This wax, however, when separated from Tallow Wick, would seemingly burn forever. The only Tallow Wick who never seemed to melt was the very first tallow wick, Esther, who was the candle maker’s tribute to his mother and held a very special scent to her. She was deemed mother by many of the Tallow Wicks, since they did not truly have a mother figure of their own.

Other ponies began to hear of the magical properties of this everlasting wax, and began to actively seek them to use in their offices and homes. This wasn’t too terrible, however, because candle ponies could not feel pain unless their flames were harmed, so a bit of wax chipped off here and there was to no consequence to them. However, as ponies greedily chipped away at the Tallow Wicks, they did not allow the wax to regenerate into its original form before taking more, causing the Tallow Wick to deform, and to have much shorter life spans. Plus, to mark it all off, they were being sold left and right due to their rarity, separating them from their loved ones.

The candle maker began to despair over his creation’s treatment, and tried desperately to recover the surviving Tallow wicks. This began to plunge him into a deep poverty, having to sell almost everything in order to get every last one back. Once he had all his creations returned to him, he seemingly disappeared off the face of the planet, never to be seen again. Many assumed that he had died from his over excursion, and the Tallow Wicks had fled across the globe in grief for their dead creator.

The truth is they never left the candle shop. Deep underground, there lay a large underground cave system that was mostly submerged in natural spring water. On top of this water, there floats a massive miniature city, filled with all the Tallow Wicks. All the entrances are guarded by fierce Candle-like Dragons who protect the innocent from the greed on the surface. They associate with the ponies above, as they are the key source in mail seals and delivery, but must return to the city afterwards, for their wax is even more valuable than before. However, despite having to avoid the outside world, they live very wonderful lives in their vast city, as there is a district for anything that suits their hearts fancy (besides staying outside). Each obtains an orb that represents that they had found their calling that burns eternally, for that will be how they will be remembered.

The Tallow Wicks are led by Mother and the Candle Maker, who had converted himself to one of his creations long ago.

~ Traits ~

These are about the only traits that we will discuss rarities on. The back candles are not required on the species, as some ponies cut remove them as they find them restrictive. If anything ever changes we will be sure to add it on! The only other thing is different types of meltings (as rarely, ponies dont melt quite right...)
