This shows how well the pretty pattern that cover them work as camo.
Talk about hidden dangers!

Bitis gabonica holds a few World record titles.
Stocky wide bodied with short tail sections, they're the heaviest of all the Viperids. LOL! Healthy Gaboons look kinda chubby.

That's not their most important claim to fame though...
By body length, these vipers have the longest fangs and they deliver more venom than any other snake in the world.
The poison may not be as toxic, but a 5' Gaboon deals out larger dosages per bite than an 18' King Cobra!

Unlike some of their northern kin like the Cottonmouth, they aren't easily coaxed into open displays of their deadly dental weapons. Gaboons are the MASTERS of stealthy lay-in-wait hunting; often their prey actually steps on the snake before they're struck.

When the snakes do open wide, ya can't help but be impressed - the fangs of a full grown adult are nearly 2 inches long!!!!
LOL! Now that's a sight straight out of the nightmares of Indiana Jones.

Wow! Thank you for the info. O.O;

He was covered so I decided to just take the photo of his head.

LOL! It's a very common pose for the species.
