I agree with everyone else. I miss the doves.
They added great symbollic value, but I think they also did a good job occupying the space. Without the doves, the piece feels a little unbalanced with a highly detailed dog on the right and no birdies on the left to occupy some space.
But, regardless, a gorgeous improvement *v* I love your linework and you've made this so so much more powerful with the little changes you've done.

Actually huh, I looked at this before and wondered why it seemed off... didn't even consider that it could be that the picture isn't balanced. I'll definitely throw the birds back in there next year! xD

I was just sitting here and thinking WHY HAVE I NOT TALKED TO HER IN THIS LONG.
and then I realized it was probably because I didn't answer a note/message/etc. xD I'm still working on my friendship skillz.
but YAY, always the best to know you're still alive.
By the way I was digging around my computer and I found an old set of tags (avatars? icons? I forget what dA calls them) I never gave you, for some reason... let me go look for them.

This looks amazing! Very touching, and I love how you've updated it. I do think that the doves added more to the impact of the piece, though. They give it a deeper feeling of deprivation. The dog has already lost his best friend, and now there are other creatures taking over the place he lives, as well.

Hm, never thought of them like that... I originally had them in to emphasize the extent of the home's abandonment, but when I reviewed the piece for redoing, I wasn't sure if they were worth putting in because they drew attention to the left and made the room seem less empty. Now I'm not sure!

I'm thinking of putting them back if I redo this again, another artist pointed our their merit... I assumed they took away from the piece but I might be wrong!

Yes! And now more than 90% done with your commission! I was almost finished during winter break but then schoolwork swept me back to the real world (and is currently taking up all my time again, ugh).
The shading is done, leaders are done, pack is done, just got to finish the foreground and touch up the background a bit. I promise it'll be completed soon. <3 (If you still want it - the wait was faaaar too long - it's free of charge!)
