an Xray of my right hand would reveal titanium plates all over my middle finger.

Got it crushed by an angry sports fanboy who'd pissed me off.
jk

A steel girder fell on my hand when I was working in a scrapyard.
Took me a good while before I got back into drawing at all afterwards. Its still "rusty" now.

Heres to relearning to draw *raises glass of fictional wine*

I have almost the exact same fracture but on the other bone in the other wrist. What happened with me, was they elected not to operate on it. Ligaments grew in-between the crack of the bone and the space between the two, so now my wrist is paralyzed. In my situation, because I can't turn my hand completely down or up, although I learned from the therapist how to twist my arm at the elbow instead of the wrist (by straightening my arm), I tend not to use that hand very much, and arthritis is setting in (aside from the unsitely bulge of the bone poking out). I spoke to a doctor about the arthritis - he said I have approximately 40% of the strength in my left hand as my right hand. He said he couldn't make a 40 (i.e. %) into a 100, but he could take a 2 and make it into a 14...The atrophy isn't too much to worry about - you will come back from that...I give you all of my best wishes (and for a speedy recovery)...

You don't know the half of it - I broke almost every bone in mine, then I was ticketed for "smacking up the mountain," because I didn't have "medical" insurance (Long, but interesting story).

...That was about 20 years ago - paralysis in the left wrist and right shoulder are the only remnants. How my story started was I was driving through a mountainous forest highway in a Honda Civic, and entered a landslide area - the ground was covered with small rocks, I hit a 30 degree turn which went downhill, and the car fishtailed a bit, so I slowed down. The next turn was a hairpin turn to the left, and it was downhill, with a hill on the left. I was going about 30MPH, and the car started to spin out uncontrollably. I unbuckled my seat belt so I could shift my weight to the passenger seat - the wheels collapsed during the spinout. At this point, I was unconscious, as the gearshift lever hit my forhead (If you could imagine, I was basically lying on my right side in the drivers' seat). My wrist was already broken, as it was pushed through the front windshield. The rest of the story until I regained consciousness) is reported by people coming towards me in the opposite lane: The car straightened out and stopped spinning - it went across the street, and up the hill - it then barrel-rolled sideways down the hill, flipping over twice, coming to rest with the front end of the car off a cliff (Not like in the movies - only about 1 foot of the car was off the cliff, so no dramatic dangling or anything). I regained consciousness about 2 minutes later, to find I could not move my neck, and two people were in my car - they put a splint on my neck, because they were sure after a roll like that that it was broken (and it actually wasn't). and said they called 911. I asked if I hit anyone: "no" was the answer. I asked if my car was damaged - they said there was a little problem with the roof - I looked up and the roof was caved in from the barrel roll. The fire department landed a helicopter next to the car. They said they would have to use the jaws of life to get me out of the car - I convinced them not to - the seats had levers to allow them to lie back, but then came the problem - my hand was through the windshield - the hole it went through was about the size of a quarter. They said since it was already broken, I couldn't do much more damage to it, and they didn't know of any other way to get my hand back through the windshield, so they said I had to pull it back through the hole. I couldn't feel it anyway, so I did so. As I did so, my wristwatch was pulled off, rolled down the hood, and went off the cliff. They folded back the seat and took me out of the car, put me on a stretcher and put me on the helicopter. The helicopter was ancient - a Piasecci or something. It shook like mad - there was no difference in feeling being on the ground or in the air because of how much it shook. While on it, they gave me an I.V., and said I was hurt really bad and asked if I had medical insurance - I did not. When we landed, a nurse bringing me in asked if I had medical insurance - I said no. The doctor asked if I had medical insurance - I said no. A police officer asked if I had insurance - I said "no." - that was the mistake - he meant car insurance, so he wrote me up for not having insurance, and a very rare vehicle code for smacking up the mountain. I went to court to contest the ticket in casts a week later. Judge said it read like a book, "You were driving on mountain highway...(ya)...lost control of the car...(ya)...and crashed...(ya). Tell you what, if you plead no contest to smacking up the mountain, I will drop the no-insurance charge." I agreed, and had to pay $55 in damages for the mountain. I then later went to traffic school to get it off my record, and the jaw dropped on the instructor when he heard why I was there, the law reads like this: "California vehicle code 21662: Failure to maintain control of a vehicle on a mountainous highway." Back to the wrist. If I recall, I was in the cast for about 2 months (My jaw was broken in about 2 places, so it was about 3 weeks before I could eat anything other than soup). Where the bone poked through the skin was a lot of bleeding, so it was bleeding inside the cast, which when dried made the cast very uncomfortable. After the cast, they put me on a splint, basically permanently or until I felt comfortable not wearing it. I had one surgery on my right shoulder since then, just to allow it to move, but it doesn't move involuntarily. The only other noticeable permanent problem is my knees have pins in them holding them together - I can't really run. At one point, I tried - while playing a softball game with my company, I hit the ball and tried to run to first base, but didn't make it - I broke one of the pins in my right knee, and it had to be replaced.
