Description This particular diorama is about food insecurity, and the worrisome notion that we might all have to be eating insects sometime in the future!  Today I’ll upload the other 3 images I have made that deal with food insecurity.

Restless and pandemic-weary, I began the diorama project in a small lightbox I had built in my front garden in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  Each week for a year I created and installed a new diorama.  I had seen kids struggling with their mental health as they witnessed the many challenges facing our society and I wanted to help.  With the diorama project, in my own small way, I attempted to provide a safe place for kids to begin a dialogue with adults on some of these challenges, about which they might be anxious, confused, or fearfuI.

Climate, food security, housing, technology and loneliness are among the important issues I explore through my dioramas. I draw the viewer in with a playful and lighthearted touch, using miniature animals, dolls, and toys in bright coloured environments.  I believe that this method of presentation allows mature topics to be discussed creatively and productively. At the heart of each diorama there is a drama, a story to be told, and it is up to the viewer to decide what that drama is.  All interpretations are valid.

i am in the throes of creating a book that adults and children 8+ can share together.  Accompanying each photograph will be its title and one thought-provoking question to get the discussion started.
