I felt like it. *laughs*Well, I haven't posted anything in a while and I haven't painted anything in a while either, so I decided to do this. Her skin tone ended up a little light, and it's still a bit rough around the edges, but I'm pretty pleased with it. (and yes, I know her dress is going one way and her hair is going another. It's intentional. Kinda going for a mini whirlwind effect, there).
It's kind of for an idea I had, a kind of "If PotC had an animated series/movies and I got to write/direct" thing *laughs*. Calypso looking, as Jack puts it in my head "particularly more Goddessy today." Maybe post more art of the idea later, Davy Jones is still alive in it and still very Cephalopod-y (for an actual REASON, not me just being cephalopod-davy fan).
MAN, I wish I had time for fanfiction, then I could get the story down. *laughs* But yeah, all fan art here. I'll tell the story through that.

If you were to do an animated series or a fan-comic of PoTC, I would totally read if only for the animation.

What? Why would you hate it because of that?
Her looks didn't matter, first off, because in the beginning, all you had her as was Tia Dalma, and she had that specific look to her, I'm guessing partly because it fits the "voodoo witch" figure, and the fact that you weren't supposed to know she was a goddess in anything past the way that she acted about knowing things. The only time that you actually SEE Calypso is that short time after Ragetti released her, but the point is that the figure of Tia Dalma is who you knew and it was sort of a progressive thing dealing with her anger when she grew bigger and bigger. There wasn't any requirement for her to look goddessy, and when she finally was a goddess again, her main reason for being there was the maelstrom.
I know other reasons to not completely like the movie, but the visuals were strong and highly stylized. But whatever. Nice to know you liked the picture!

Oh I know. But I still thought it could have been done better. It felt kinda...rushed. You know? The whole movie felt kinda rushed. But other than that, I liked it. I liked Tia a lot.

And I've seen some of the characters animated and they make Ragetti look like an odd looking...elf. I just dont like it. Now, I'd love it if it were you that were making the animations. Because, this picture of Calypso is awsome. Great design and does look like her.C: Great coloring too.o:
I guess my greatest fear is that they'll mess up the whole idea of pirates.D: And lets hope that if they do make this animated series that they get some good voice actors.

An animated series... Hrmm... I bet one is coming. They've already writted books where Jack Sparrow is a kid, and Pirates has been such a success for disney so it's only a matter of time before they make one.

Well, I love pirates as much as the next person, but my whole thought on the thing is "I want a Pirates Animated series/movies... that doesn't suck." I mean, I can think of SO MANY WAYS that they can mess this up, which is why I started thinking up my own plotlines in the first place. It started with the thought that "They keep memorable characters, like Davy Jones, just cuz people liked them, even if it doesn't make ANY sense why they're there."
So, I started brainstorming over how they would work that out, and make it believable, and stuff, and I ended up with this story in my head. I WISH I could work on Animated Pirates. That would be so boss.
BUT ANYWAY, yeah, I just wish they'd take their time with this one. I mean, I want them to do something quality. I mean, if they're going to toss out something just for the money of it, they might as well get it looking good. You know?

If they make one, the style will probably be something like their comic series in the Disney Adventures mini-magazine. That's just wonky. I whole-heartedly agree that you could do a better job than ANY of the goons at Disney and it's because you're NOT working for them. You see flaws they can't, good plot twists they can't and so much more because you are a fan! You care about the SERIES not just the paycheck.

Dude, that was one of my biggest fears, that if they made a Pirates animated series that you'd end up with the Disney Adventures style. And while I commend that artist with having a really interesting stylized quality to his work, it just doesn't WORK. Not with the Pirates characters, imo, at least, he doesn't capture the characters very well (And in his drawings, Pintel ends up prettier than Ragetti. WTF.). Throughout the Pirate franchise's existence, though, they've toggled around with different styles, so there might be a chance that they'd explore another path, BUT they've already titled the set style as "animated Pirates style", which is why I'm kind of sure that it's the style they'd choose if they made a series.
I WISH they'd get fan insight into the series instead of a committee that supposedly gauges what people want. That's why I really appreciate a studio where the workers like/love what they're doing. Sometimes you just wish you could have a friend working there, and then give them your stuff and say "MENTION THIS IN THE MEETINGS. OKAY?"
Well, dreams is what I build my future on. Who knows? *laughs* Well, I do, I'm not even out of high school yet, so it's not going to work out, BUT DREAMS. DREAAAAMS. *dreams for a better style than what's in Disney adventures AT LEAST*

Yeah, we'd better make some friends in Disney or else we're stuck spamming them. Seriously, if they get two thousand sum E-mails all with the SAME IDEA from a bunch of different people you'd think they'd AT LEAST CONSIDER the idea.
Or they could give Pirates to Pixar. The animation would a little creppy at first, but at least Pixar knows what they are doing. Yay, Pixar!
