Um...I said in the artist's comments on page 31 that Birdie just knocked Pierre out XDD And Birdie talked his way out of that sort of confrontation, as well as the fact that Pierre doesn't really know what happened in the other room considering it was dark. But oh well.

First off:

Okay, if you're going to be like that, give me his full first name and his full last name.

Second off:

It's not about us knowing, it's about Ned knowing. There is quite a bit of difference to the knowledge of the audience and the knowledge of the actual character, and they mean very different things in the context of the story.

I feel an apology is in order. I did not mean to upset or offend you in any way.

My roommate can tell you that i flipped out ( complete with staring and pointing at the screen while only being able to make a squealing sound) for at least 3 minutes after she called him Bert.
My response was aimed more at the readers who were acting like they had completely missed that page, than at you.
Also, if you're going to be like that, tell me in all honest that if his flash back had continued he would have said his whole name. They obviously know each other, since she is persisting in calling him whatsisface. It sounds like a nickname more than anything. It also kind of sounds like they are flirting, if not to say at the very least bantering. Besides even if she didn't know him, how often is that you hear someone introduced by their full name?

And I will agree with you there. That is why there is such a thing as dramatic irony. But in this case both the characters and the audience know, since what triggered the flash back in the first place was Ned being called by his real name.

I really do love this page. It explains why she called him whatsisface on page 9. It wasn't because she couldn't remember his name, it was her nickname for him. And if he had his memory I'd wager he would have called her whatserface right back.

1. Yes, he was going to say his full name, and having him say his full name isn't a farfetched deal. Ned was known for being a complete dork when he was younger and had a penchant for introducing himself in a James Bond fashion. And in any case, at the time Whit would have only really known him by his first name as this was actually on the first day of filming, if she remembered it at all, since Ned wasn't THAT important of a player in the production of the film past "Cultural Nitpicker." Whatsisface IS a nickname in a sense, but in accordance to Whit's personality, it's also her being quite open with the fact that she doesn't remember his name and it doesn't matter much to her if she does or not. If I did a comic of their short relationship through the filming, it would become apparent that that changes over the course of them knowing each other, but at that moment, no. It's quite different. And yes, I do think over all of this.

And if the relationship is professional, introducing people by their full names is pretty common. At least in my own experience.

2. No, Ned was not aware, even when Whit said it, that that was his real name. It was like reacting when he was reminded of Lucy, or reacting when he was reminded of the clinic--the memories are there, the things are there, but he is not consciously aware of their significance to him. And if you read over the comic again, the thing that triggered his flashback was actually the sight of the Bean, Vaughn, and Whit being killed. The name was just an opening that made him more susceptible to the memories that his brain suppressed. In the end, the only in-character person who is aware of Bert being his real name would be Whit, who is now dead. If you see Ned looking over all his memories, half the time he doesn't understand them. Just because you as an audience have the capacity to make the meaning, it doesn't mean Ned is. Once again, it's different.

While I understand you didn't mean to offend, this sort of questioning is bringing out some annoyance in me in that I actually do think over almost every point that I make in this comic and I really hate to see them being misinterpreted. >.< Or to see people talking with such authority over my intentions or "mistakes."
