Description edit: So I started on Mr. Cranky. Get back to it later. Gotta ink stuff.

JEM AND SHANKS ENJOYING A BREAK TIME IN SOME PARADISE.

Just wanted to post something of it before I RUIN IT BECAUSE I ALWAYS DO.

A screengrab showing off my terribly unrefined digital painting technique so that all of you can make fun of me. Digital Illustration requires me to do 5 digital sketches/drawings a week, and I'm going to take that opportunity to try to get better at painting. And to play around with Magic Train stuffs.

I haven't done a painted piece for Magic Train yet, and I've been messing around with the idea more lately as a way to cope with school and work (SWEAR TO GOD THE WEBCOMIC IS COMING OUT THIS YEAR, ;o; i know i said that two years ago, fuck you).

Edit: OKAY, so... I meant to post this on my other site, and then I realized I'm still in crispy-gypsy. I only have 2 accounts, I shouldn't be this fucking easy to confuse O_O; XDDD oh whatever.

What are you talking about you're still godly at painting!

Actually I wasn't aware until you posted your Blog journal that you even had a second account, so maybe a few more stuff-ups ... err, I mean self promotions up here wouldn't go amiss?

I am sure many gods are offended at you for saying that. If Zeus zaps me for it, I'm blaming you.

XDDDD Oh perhaps. My other account's not that popular, because it's mostly devoted to illustrations for my original stories or just boring things, so I don't foist it on people very often. I figured that I'd start advertising it a bit more when I actually get my webcomic online, but I am taking many forevers in doing that. Crispy is a terrible person.

For a terrible person you have a terrible amount of people in your following. So if you become a better person I don't want to fathom how many of us will be falling over to kiss your feet ...

It's a shame that personal stuff usually doesn't get as much attention as fanart and such. I myself am guilty of finding you through your Clopin art BUT I am a shameless fan of yours and view every deviation even if I don't necessarily comment, and I am in awe of your style and skills. Now I sound creepy. I shall go back to my corner and stay quiet.

I typically like staying on one layer or treating it like one layer because it's more like painting that way for me... You know, unless i'm going to start painting something that I feel could ruin my entire piece and I'm being paranoid O:

XDD I...I can't tell you if it's a good idea or not though

I know exactly what you mean. When I first started paiting I used lots of layers because I was paranoid that I would mess things up, but it would just be more unnatural and confusing. Staying on one layer means sometimes you have to redo some part of the drawing again, but somehow that takes up less time than figuring every layer out and redoing them all one by one

Unless indeed it's a whole different part that could ruin the piece; then sometimes I put on a different layer if I feel like it.

Only 3 layers? I wish I had that confidence. o.O

Also, I love the way you sketch.

You're doing fine! Digital painting is really fun once you get the hang of it. Have you tried messing around with custom brushes yet? Some people find that they have an easier time transitioning to digital painting if they use a brush that makes a mark a bit more similar to traditional media.

Oh I've been digital painting for years. XDD My point is that it doesn't mean I'm good at it. I've tinkered around with custom brushes for a while, but I still prefer using the defaults on the photoshop pallet. They just work better for me.

Hah, my mistake. >.< Either way, I'd say your digital painting looks pretty darn good. There's certainly room for improvement, but it's not something that anyone's going to make fun of either. :'D

XD Well, and the last piece I posted was also a work-in-progress digital paint, as were a couple of pieces posted earlier this month, so I'm just laughing here.

O: And yup! Which is why I'm taking every opportunity this semester to improve on it, since it's something I avoided practicing toooooooooooo much on in the past few years. Though it's just a Work in Progress of course. It'll hopefully look a billion times better by the time it's done.

Unless I fail at life, then what do you know XD Just a learning process.
