Man. I am seriously starting to wonder if my brother and all the other 9 year olds I used to have to deal with on a daily basis were GENIUSES or something. Or if people just think 9 year olds are retarded.

My 8 year old sister seems to have crap awful grammar compared to her peers, but she brings home these spelling lists with words like "tax" and a bunch of other nonesense big kid words and they have started to teach them multiplication I MEAN SERIOUSLY

*shrugs* My brother's vocabulary list has "revolutionary" in it and he started learning multiplication a couple years ago. That's the standard here, and Marie is going by Ventura county standards, because that's where it takes place (apart from the...magic forest bits). So I wouldn't say she's got an extensive vocabulary for a 9 year old. I'd say she knows shit that a 9 year old with MY BACKGROUND knows.

I dunno about the 9 year olds you know, but she's based on an amalgamation of all the 9 year olds I know having been a youth theater assistant and a current sister to one. She is just as sarcastic as a lot of 9 year olds. Believe me.
