"Amongst the three frontier kingdoms, a royal tradition maintains the throne. Every 3 years the lords are dispatched on a hunt for the newest alpha, faced with the challenges of traversing hazardous terrain, finding edible food amid the charred remnants, and staying hydrated and cool. Beyond the frontier it's not at all uncommon to die before ever seeing your prey face to face.

Weeks of intense heat is what makes tracking the most dangerous part. For stretches of hundreds of kilometers, the flame morphs and warms the landscape unnaturally, creating conditions similar to a blistering desert. Water and sleep are precious, nights on the trail likened to camping amid a raging volcano.

A special thrill comes the first time the mark shows itself on the horizon, searing the sky with fire. Though it takes a unique kind of hunter to maintain that enthusiasm when it yet again flies out of reach, and an even more special kind of king.

The three approach yet again, the mark scorching a flock to thin out its brood, ensuring only the strongest survive. It has been 2 months now, and the lord's grow weary, not speaking a word. Their is little fear, the hardest part is over, and it seems it will sleep nearby. Once slayed, the scales and fangs of the beast will be mounted upon their thrones, ensuring another three years of their rule. Another three years of respect."
