Description
Inspired by Gradius, a planet-sized Bacterian megafortress orbited by it's entire fleet of warships creeps across deep space.----------------------------------------------
Download at your peril -- it's 2MB, and 8.5 by 11 inches!

Rewind to about September of last year. I did this as an experiment in OpenCanvas v1.1, to see just how far I could stretch the program's resources. I was impressed with the end product at the time. Nowadays though, I'm curious how I could bring more of the fortress out and show off some real depth perception.
Yadda yadda yadda! Destroy the core, folks!

It looks like a multi-core ship. I wonder what its defenses are...

Very awesome! I like the dark menacing feel to it, like it's gonna creep up and start chewing on your plant while it's "little" ships beat the crap out of your pathetic planetary defenses.
Depth perception in space is HARD... 'cause space doesn't HAVE any visual depth perception cues AT ALL. That's why we STILL don't know exactly how far away a star is unless there's a nearby star that has know features we can measure distance from... thank goodness for standard candles and the cosmological red shift!
You *could* put all your space images inside unrealistically thick nebula, or near plants/moons... but that would seriously limit your options for drawing planet sized super-fortresses.

Oh man, great to see you uploading again!
Very cool.
Got to say, not many games have as much replay value as the Gradius series.
You just feel like firing it up every so often, no matter how many times you've played.

Looks kind of like an evil version of Samus' ship from Metroid... Only enormous and evil

Destroy the core eh? Is there a two-meter exhaust vent somewhere?
