Description Finally, a reference for my long neglected changeling OC. By long neglected I mean the rough sketch for this reference was done in October 2015.

Yellow Jacket a disgruntled, unreformed changeling. She isn't especially good at that love and friendship stuff. Frankly, she's a little on the emotionally stunted side. She's exceptionally short tempered and can be highly aggressive when irritated. Although she is obedient enough to refrain from the 'old way of life', when trying to socialize normally the whole ordeal often feels staged to her and consequently she doesn't like to bother. Changelings being what they are and requiring love as sustenance, Yellow Jacket could aptly be described as 'hangry'. Between the lingering mistrust some ponies still harbor towards changelings and still being the less cuddly form of changeling herself, she often disguises herself as an ordinary pegasus to avoid unwanted negative attention when around ponies.

She suffers some psychological distress from the knowledge that she no longer fits in or 'belongs' among her own kind. She isn't where she 'should' be in life by anyone's standards. Regardless of what she may think of herself, the whole genuine connection thing is difficult for her and attempts typically feel like one step forward and two steps back. She feels stuck and will likely lash out, taking out this caged animal feeling on whoever happens to be around when it hits her.

Oooh, what a cool design! I love her bio, too - she has quite a realistic and refreshing personality, in a sea of "perfect in every way" OCs. I also like how her changeling form's membrane "mane" resembles the bangs on her pony form's mane. It's a nice touch

With something like Yellow Jacket as a namesake I couldn't imagine having her be a sweet, likable character! Haha. At the very least, I want getting to a point where she could be considered likable to be very hard for her.

She was concepted before the whole reformation thing came up and I pretty much immediately knew that I didn't want to reform her. If I ever do, it'll be after role playing her as the aggressive butthole and working through scenarios that lead in the 'personal growth' direction. Even then it'll be slow. I'm thinking in terms of her being sparkly winged like Thorax was pre-reforming for a while, being kind of there but not quite. A slow process for her.

I really like the idea of that being a slow, painful process for her. Honestly, it makes a lot more sense than the whole "ohhh, look at all this LOVE, I'm totally a different person now" thing that happened with the majority of the changelings in the show. Because, really... wouldn't a total personality change be difficult after living in a negativity-focused, dystopian hive society for years? Especially for those with a rather asocial inclination like Yellow Jacket here.

I'll be keeping an eye on this character!

I think it depends. We see characters who are meant to be deceivers or trouble-makers slowly become attached to the same characters they're deceiving and get caught in the middle often enough. Those types of experiences may not be a rarity to changelings, given they have to go in and pretend to be a loved one in order to feed. Some changelings may well have been predisposed to take the first opportunity to just be loved the normal way because of such personal experiences. On top of that, love is essentially food to them, so we can view all changelings as 'hangry' individuals whose tune may change considerably once they're full.

Of course, then you get characters like Chrysalis who'd rather 'pull a Zira' and reject help, or characters like Pharynx who are attached to some aspect of the old ways and don't want to entirely give themselves over to the new state of things.

That's a very interesting point! I hadn't thought of that, but I suppose they would be rather used to "playing the role" of normal ponies, and it makes sense that this would leave some sort of emotional mark on them even if they were just acting. Hmm!

Brownie points if anyone makes a Grant Ward type of changeling, constantly claiming he actually cares about whoever he deceives but doing things that make the audience cringe anyway.

It's probably the most shades of yellow I've used on an individual piece. I guess that's what happens when the character has a color in their name.
