Haha this is so true! Finally, I see someone that is frustrated with Slender Man. A logical person.
Ugghh...Slender Man, gives me a headache every time I see him. I cannot take him seriously nor could I ever.
Especially when franchised and even "trademarked" by a video game industry.
Slender was the Pioneer of CreepyPasta's I think? He is a joke. It's a mixture between a Sociopathic Child Abducting FACE-LESS Alter-ego that was never found (the symbolism, of course) and Shadow Beings/Shadow People.
((If you're barely reading this and don't even know what a Shadow Being "is"? Yep. I pretty much stumped you - If you do the "research" on what they are))
Regardless, these two concepts have always existed. Put two and two, together. Makes a great twist to a writing plot, with a little photo shop images and imagination. Wouldn't some agree? No. Ha!

Haha well my frustration with Slenderman has calmed down quite a bit now since I made this piece. The whole Slenderman community seems much more quiet now, the ridiculousness of it all no longer being quite so intense. I suppose Slenderman's candle did burn quite brightly very quickly, and very few wanted to clean up the mess of wax.
I haven't any patience for Marble Hornets or any of the ARGs anymore. They were fun for the time, but they've passed now too.
Pioneer sounds about right. I don't read or listening to any creepypastas about Slenderman, Jack the Killer, Rake or any such iconic characters. The standalone ones are at times far more meaty for me. Plenty of other great things to write about out there!
Well he was conceived in mind as a fairy-type entity from Germany if I recall right. I did scrounge through the SomethingAwful forums many years back, looking for his origins. Strangely enough he was also first designed to have a hat, and a face. One of his tactics was to change his face accordingly to better fool and ensnare his victims. So really, he had no true face of his own, but could wear many. A detail that seems to be long forgotten or disregarded entirely. At the raw core of the Slenderman bogey-man idea, I find it really compelling. It was effective in its subtlety as a very well hidden being. The idea that he was barely known is what made him creepier, he was that effective in hiding his presence. But when the internet blows that up so that everyone knows of him, well that kinda puts him outta business, doesn't it?
I'm aware of the Shadow beings or people, yes Very eerie.
I've yet to check out that HBO doco. Heard there was in image in there that looked like one I drew. Don't know if that's true or not. But if anything it's swaying me into checking it out to see.
Cheers for the comment dude!
Wishing you well.

As one who was never interested in Slenderverse anything before recently, I can say that the pure meme-ness and absolute EVERYWHERE of Slenderman really put me off of anything like it until I discovered Marble Hornets in June 2016. I still refuse to call him "Slenderman" in everyday conversation, but rather "the Operator" or my version, "the Refractor", just because of this.
A lot of newer art that I've seen seems to be bringing back the fear and mystery factor. Well, at least among fans of the numerous Slenderseries which have been popping up. For the most part.

I'm never certain why they even referred to him as the Operator other than avoiding plagiarism, as Slenderman is copyrighted as such by Surge. Refractor? Interesting... why do you call him that? I just git iffy when he is referred to as "Slender" simply from his reputation from the game of Slender the eight pages.
There are new Slender series popping up? Any good ones?

They called him the Operator in the series because A, he was basically a different entity than what had been created originally (did different things and didn't go after children) and B, he "operated" certain characters. The characters in the series (apart from ToTheArk) never even called him Operator themselves, just "that thing" or "it". While technically the same, I consider them different entities for those reasons.
I call my version "Refractor" because it's what his presence does. He bends people to his will with simple exposure. Refraction is a bending of light, so it made sense. I also got the idea for the name from a song by the same title which had a rather fitting chorus. His abilities are also different from both original Slenderman and the Operator.
The nickname that just kills me is "Slendy". It just sounds... cute. O.o
The list on the Slenderverse Wiki is a good place to look. There's some interesting-sounding series that have pages there. Some series that are ongoing that I've subbed to on YouTube are TheNovemberProject and J Investigations, but I haven't gotten too far into either so I don't know how they compare to the more well-known ones. Then of course there's my series which I started in September, null_jordan, which is actually done in the format of a sketch journal here on DA. Everyone has told me it's pretty good, but as the writer I'm never sure if they mean it or are just saying that to be nice. XD
You can make a judgment yourself on that here: yeiier.deviantart.com/art/Null…

There is a reason to these jokes, people try to turn something that frightens them into something more enjoyable such as a meme (in other words there pussy's) and they make scary things, less scary
Slender man isn't taken serious anymore when people hear his name they think of silly jokes and memes and not what he really is, luckily i will always see him for what he is and not some silly joke
Cool picture as well, did you hand draw it? if you did then thats pretty cool

I feel this is only the case if people won't write (draw, film, program, whatever media you choose) any new stories about him; instead just picking apart the old ones until all that is left is jokes and memes.

Yeah, I agree with that.
Energy and creativity is directed in, dare I say, the wrong place towards the concept. Deffinitely changes the whole impression of Slenderman.

:,( Eu não acredito que Slenderman tenha morrido. Ainda tem varias historias e fanarts bem recentes sobre ele, que sao assustadoras.
Mas esse desenho é realmente lindo... E triste

It's a shame to see such an immense creation ravelled in uncharted mystery and horror reduced to a simple meme. I wish people could appreciate horror characters for what their name states they should be: horrific.

Nooooooo, don't die, Slendy!!
The most interesting and dangerous beings often succumb to the fate of memehood.

A very fruitful future as Slender pony awaits him now.
But hey, there are still plenty of people who keep him sacred to his original design. That's what counts.
Thank you very much though ^_^

Thanks for fucking putting me in the most horrible rampage ever. I rushingly started scribbling myself wearing intestines as a scarf, a pair of severed eyes over my empty eye sockets, and a human heart in my hand soaked in blood. Too disturbing to even think of uploading. And now I'm thinking about killing for real...

"Slender Man: Know your Meme" is the fifth result in Google when I look you up. This is what happens when the internet latches onto you. It's not your fault though.

I was someone else long before Victor Surge made those damn fake photos and everyone started calling me "Slenderman". Maybe the Slenderman YOU all know is dead and just a meme, but I'm not. Don't make assumptions.

I still like the concept of the Slender Man, nothing has changed there. It's just a pity to see him degrade in his popularity.
This is all personal opinions of course, and there are plenty of people who would disagree with me.
