Description
"The Martians had no resistance to the bacteria in our atmosphere to which we have long since become immune. Once they had breathed our air, germs which no longer affect us, began to kill them. The end cam swiftly, all over the world their machines began to stop and fall. After all that men could to do had failed, the Martians were destroyed and mankind saved. By the littlest things, that God in his wisdom had put upon this Earth..."Brilliant ending to a brilliant story.
A snapshot of the Swan-like War Machines from George Pal's The War of the Worlds based off of the novel by HG Wells.
The first war machine has fallen, slain by the Earth's bacteria. Another is as of yet, un affected. And the other to the right is beginning to feel a bit motion sick

would be cool to think that the heat ray is overcharging due to the martian inside not rethe charge and is ready to blow up

Would be a bit of a safety hazard me thinks.

i've seen a lot of scenes where the operator of some weapons gets killed and the weapon in question overloads then detonates.

i somehow noticed that in the ending sequence of the movie, all the martian machines that were downed are perched atop a pile of rubble.

So that they could be projected onto the backdrops of various cities. It was just a cinematic technique.

though the rubble looked too generic

It's only on screen for a few seconds, didn't need to look like a work of art.

Awesome In my opinion the ending to the old War of the Worlds movie came a little to sudden, they were in the middle of an attack when they suddenly died, but it's a cool movie, especcially from 1953

I feel the same way. They still could have incorperated the red weed in my opinion. But sadly they were on a budget that just wouldnt allow many ideas they had. They also inteded the machines to be Tripods in Stop-motion, but there wouldnt be sufficient funding for it.
Shame too. Ah well, it's one of the classics

It is, but it would have been even cooler if those things were in it I once saw a maquette with legs (with the designer next to it) but that idea was indeed dropped becouse of budged restrictions.
